Billy Meyer

August 11, 1936 — November 23, 2021

Houston, TX

Billy Joe Meyer, 85, passed away on November 23, 2021. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 28, 2021, at 2:00 pm, at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham, TX. Visitation will be held in the hour prior to the service. Private burial will take place at Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Billy was born on August 11, 1936, in Burton, Texas. He grew up in Burton with his siblings, graduating from Burton High School and attending Blinn College.

In his younger days he served in the US Army Reserves. His service ended shortly after he married Eleanora in 1959. They enjoyed 54 wonderful years together before her passing in 2013. As a young engaged couple, they both moved separately to Houston to take the first steps in their new life together. Billy moved in with his uncle and got a job at Mosher Steel as a shipping clerk, staying there through their change to Trinity Industries and after 50 years, retiring as shipping manager. He coordinated the transport of steel beams that became common Houston area sites like the ship channel bridge and Beltway 8.

When he wasn’t working, he spent as much time tending the yard as he could. As newlyweds their dream was to have a home and yard they could enjoy and 5 years into their marriage they broke ground on the home they would enjoy for the rest of their lives. Over the years he had a garden and fruit trees, spent many hours trying to salvage pecans from the squirrels that run rampant in the neighborhood and lots and lots of time on the riding lawn mower. Billy also enjoyed seeing family at every get together they could manage attending, always happy for a special occasion to indulge in food and drink and conversation. His life was his home and his family and friends. In his later years, when it became too difficult to travel or enjoy services at Kinsmen Lutheran Church, the home he and Eleanora put so much energy and time into, was a great joy and comfort.

Billy is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Meyer and Evelyn Meyer of Burton, brothers Wilburn Meyer and Randy Meyer and his beloved wife Eleanora.

Surviving loved ones includes daughter Christi Meyer of Houston; his sister Dorothy & J.C. Wiederhold of Dime Box, his brothers Edward Meyer of Houston, Howard & Janice of Thrall, Ray & Tinnie Meyer of Burton and Danny Meyer of Burton and sister-in-law Linda Meyer of Giddings.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Billy’s surviving brothers and sister.
