William Henry “Bill” Hughes III, 74, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2020 with his wife of 52 years by his side, in College Station, TX.

Bill was born on Nov 5th, 1946 in Coronado, California to William and Mary Hughes.  He grew up in Houston and graduated from Bellaire High School in 1966.  Bill married Mary McClung in Houston, TX on September 19, 1968 after they met at Astroworld, where they both worked for several years.  Bill was instrumental in helping build the nostalgic amusement park where he was manager of new construction and maintaining existing structures.  He began working in affiliation with West-Tex Southwest Products in 1981.  He later went on to work at Dealers Electric in Houston for 8 years.  Bill, Mary, and Merrili later relocated to Brenham in 1993.  His last 10 years he worked at The Cannery for Faith Mission where he enjoyed meeting so many new people each day.

Bill loved coaching his children’s sports teams growing up.  Baseball being his favorite past time.  He was the President of Kyle Chapman Baseball for 10 years where he helped build that organization to what it is today. Bill served as Deacon for Brenham Church of Christ for several years.  Bill was very much a people person and loved to talk.  He enjoyed fishing, listening to the Beach Boys, Elvis, the Bee Gees, and most of all, spending time with his precious grandchildren and spoiling them with sweet treats.  And they adored the Granddad/GeeDad!

He is survived by his wife, Mary McClung Hughes, children William David Hughes and wife Cassie, Andrew Earl Hughes and wife Paula, Merrili Anne (Hughes) Nou and husband Brian, Grandchildren Hunter Christian Hughes, Joshua Michael Hughes, Haley Brooke Hughes, Mary Catherine Nou, and Brian James Nou, siblings Patricia Hughes and Mike Hughes.
