Nora Meier

Nora Naumann Meier, 89, passed away August 9, 2016 in Brenham.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, August 13, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg, with Pastor Robert Sorenson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Nora was born November 25, 1926 in the Wiedeville Community of Washington County to Clara (Weidner) and Louis Naumann. She was baptized at home on Dec. 30, 1926 by Pastor Wm. Seidel. On June 1, 1941, Nora was confirmed by Pastor A. J. Mohr in Salem Lutheran Church.

Nora attended Washington County area schools. On October 22, 1950, she was married to Lee Roy Meier by Pastor H. Brunotte at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg. Lee Roy preceded her in death on February 2, 2015.

Nora continued membership at St. Paul, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. She served as an officer of the Young People, Lutheran League, and also of the Women of the Church. A member of the Dorcas Circle, she also sang in the church choir, and remained a faithful member at St. Paul until her death.

Nora worked at a grocery store, and after her marriage, she worked at Washington Co. Electric Co. During the time her two sons were small, she stayed home as a full-time mom. She then worked for Roy Wiese Pharmacy, Kenjura Pharmacy, and later for Dr. Lowell Herzog for 17 years. After Dr. Herzog retired, she went to work for Brenham I.S.D. for 5 years until her retirement.

Nora enjoyed dancing and playing cards and dominoes. She also enjoyed baking and decorating cakes for her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law: Donald and Miranda Meier, and Darrell and Cheryl Meier; grandchildren: Christopher and Carra Meier, Adrienne Meier, Nicholas Vierus and wife Erin; great-grandchildren: Carter and Cooper Vierus; sister, Ruth Kelling, and sister-in-law Ruby Naumann.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roy; parents, Clara and Louis Naumann; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Caroline and Otto Meier; brothers Herbert Naumann, and Arnold Naumann, and wife Evelyn; sisters and brothers-in-law: Elsie and Otto Kemper, Erna and Erwin Grawunder, Lillie Mae and Johnnie Kramer; brothers-in-law: Daniel Kelling; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Leslie and Ernestene Meier, Melvin and Lucille Kiemsteadt, and Esther and Henry Haar.

Nora's nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg, or to Hospice Brazos Valley.
