Margie Korthauer Haar

December 17, 1933 – September 18, 2021

Brenham, Texas – Margie Haar passed away peacefully on September 18, 2021 after living with Alzheimer’s Disease for five years. Her daughters are grateful to have been able to spend the last week of her life with her. Margie was the second of three siblings born to Alvin and Selma Korthauer. She was baptized, confirmed and married at St Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg. She loved to dance and play volleyball and basketball.

She met her husband of 47 years, Clarence Haar at a Luther League watermelon dance party. Clarence was in the armed services and went overseas three weeks after their marriage. Upon Clarence’s return, they moved to Houston, where they raised their three beautiful daughters. The Haar family became charter members of Advent Lutheran Church.

Margie always loved styling hair as a teenager, and this became her career. She owned and operated “Hair by Trisha” for fourteen years in Houston.

The family moved to Atlanta, GA for eight years, where Clarence worked with Coca Cola. While in Atlanta, they both enjoyed planting beautiful flowers in their yard, which won them “Yard of the Month,” month after month. Margie loved Atlanta and her neighbors became her friends for life.

Texans at heart, Margie and Clarence eventually moved back to the Houston area. Deeply religious throughout her life, Margie worshipped at Advent Lutheran Church.

Margie’s passion in life was helping others.

She enjoyed working tirelessly as a volunteer for the church, Manna, and the Pantry. At her last residence, Argent Court ALF, she was well known for assisting those in need, always with a smile on her face.

Margie was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband and her brother, Melvin Korthauer and his wife, Patricia. Margie is survived by her three daughters, Connie Alter (Bruce Alter, Miami, FL), Linda Grebe (Bryan, TX) and Robin Haar (Los Angeles, CA), her sister, Shirley Prenzler, her brother-in-law, Glenn Prenzler, her niece, Beth Glowacz, her nephew, Russ Korthauer, her four grandchildren, Brandon Grebe, Jamie Grebe Haws, Jason Alter and Nicholas Alter, and her two great-grandchildren, Courtnee and CJ Wallace.

Viewing and visitation will be on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at 10:00 AM with the funeral services following at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg. The family requests that mandatory masks be worn during the entire funeral services. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Margie’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
