Loyal Sloan Iii

March 6, 1952 — December 20, 2021

Loyal (Lee) Sloan III was born on March 6, in Monahans, Texas to L. E. Sloan and Doris (Tatom) Sloan. He suffered with an ongoing battle with Leukemia and though he beat cancer, he contracted an infection that caused organ failure on December 20, 2021.

Lee attended all years of school with Monahan’s ISD, and attended Tarleton University for both his BS and Master’s degree in Education. Lee was proud to achieve the title of 32nd degree Mason, following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps. He developed a deep respect for the Mason organization and what they do to help children.

Lee married Jenny Williams and together they became the proud parents of two beautiful daughters, Kirsha and Dorian. He worked in school districts in Van Horn and Monahans as a coach, teacher, and administrator. He then worked at Texas Instruments (TI) as a manager of information services.

Lee left TI to begin work with his father in the oil business, helping to run Zenith Oil Well Servicing. At the same time, he also assisted his father with ranching at the Sloan Ranch in Van Horn and New Mexico. After leaving the oil business, Lee returned to the field of education serving as a teacher and administrator in Monahans and Willis, Texas.

In 2006, on April 1st (his mom’s birthday), Lee married Karen Lieb. They enjoyed many happy years working in education and enjoying life with each other, friends, and family. In 2018 Lee retired from the role of education administrator and enjoyed some travel and relaxation with Karen in Brenham, Texas. They traveled to many states in the US, to several tropical Caribbean areas, and spent three weeks traveling Europe.

Lee loved to work in his “toy shop”, a large building with every kind of tool. He created wood and metal projects to gift to others. He also loved to cook for family and friends, experimenting with various ingredients until he got it “just right”. He was active in his church and loved his church family. He also enjoyed hosting the annual martini party and Chinese New Year’s party with many friends. He was proud to have assisted his former student, Shannon Shorter, with getting Shannon’s business (Texas Sanitizers’ Pro) established in Brenham Texas.

If you knew Lee, you knew two things: he was a man of his word who would follow through on his promises and would do anything to help someone with a problem or need. He loved to tell stories, and could repeat the same story with incredible detail and animation (verbatim!). Lee had many friends over the years who enjoyed his “antics”, his culinary and creative skills, his sense of humor, and his love of life.

Lee was preceded in death by his father (LE), mother (Doris), sister (Gretchen) and mother-in-law (Helen Lieb). He is survived by his wife, Karen, father-in law Duane Lieb, daughters Kirsha Sloan and Dorian (Sloan) Bratton, and son in law Trey Bratton. He also was the proud “Pops” to his four grandchildren, Bailey, Brayden and Beau Bratton, and Brody Sloan.

Lee loved his many pets over the years and leaves, to cherish his memory, cats Coolidge, Houston and Tatertot along with his dogs, Brock and Buckshot.

Lee is no longer suffering or in pain. Life without him will not be easy or ever be the same, but he will be with us always. Sweet dreams, my love!
