Louis Hanath

Louis Charles Hanath, aged 93, passed away peacefully on Friday March 12, 2021 at his home. He was surrounded by his loved ones and went joyfully to be with the Lord. Louis was born November 28, 1927 in the Possum Trot community near Brenham, Texas to Richard Hanath and Anna (Herrmann) Hanath. He was baptized on April 15th, 1928 at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brenham by Pastor Theo R. Strong. He was later confirmed on April 2nd, 1944 by Pastor Strong.

A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 15, 2021 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. A private burial will follow.

Louis went to William School, Berlin School, Brenham High School and Later Blinn College after serving in the military. He served his country from 1950 to 1952 in the United States Army during the Korean war. He proudly served in the 40th division- 24th regimen- 3rd battalion.

After returning from the war, he met the love of his life Joycine Eckermann at a dance in the Industry area. They were united in marriage on June 29th, 1957 at the Industry United Methodist Church. They were together for 63 wonderful years and were blessed by 3 sons.

Louis having a strong work ethic worked several jobs prior to retiring from Baker Hughes after 30 years with the company.

Louis and Joycine enjoyed traveling through the lower 48 states, Canada, and also to Europe where his ancestors originated. Louis was fluent in German. They enjoyed sharing their travels with their family.

Louis was proud to serve his community and was a founding member of the Chappell Hill Fire Department. He was also honored as a fireman of the year.

Once Louis became a grandfather he was affectionately known as Pop.

Louis is preceded in death by his parents Richard and Annie Hanath, his Mother-in-law and Father-in-law Barnett and Resada Eckermann, and his sister Anita Esther Hanath.

He is survived by his wife Joycine Eckermann Hanath. Also survived by sons Rodney and wife Becky, Ardie and special friend Joycelynn Green, and Derrek, Grandchildren Nicholaus Hanath and wife Mallory, Aurbrey Eikenhorst and husband Blake and great grandchildren Theodore Louis “Teddy” Eikenhorst, Tori Lyn Hanath and Friedrich Audie “Fritz” Eikenhorst. His siblings: Richard and wife Perlie, Amalea Wolff and late husband Bobby, Bennie and wife Gloria, Alvin and wife Bernice, and Elwood and wife Mae Dell. Brothers and sister-in-laws: Elgene and Doris Gene Eckermann, Wendell and late wife Margaret Eckermann, Sheryl and Thomas Schultz. Along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers include Nicholas Hanath, Blake Eikenhorst, Mark Hanath, Bradley Hanath, James Hanath, Kirk Hanath, Nathan Hanath and Kevin Hanath. Honorary pallbearers Teddy, Tori and Fritz.
