Lois Albright

June 24, 1948 — April 6, 2021

Austin

Born on June 24, 1948, Lois Elaine Weinert Albright, was greeted by her army of angels on April 6, 2021. Family will receive visitors at Memorial Oaks Chapel, Brenham, Texas on Friday April 9, 2021 from 5p.m. to 7p.m. A celebration of her life will be held at Salem Lutheran Church, Brenham, Texas on Saturday April 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Charlotte Albert officiating. The family invites you to wear blue and/or yellow, which were Lois’s favorite colors. A private burial will be held at a later date. She was born in Bellville, Texas to Wilford Carl and Lydia Minnie (Meischen) Weinert. On November 27, 1971 she married Louis Griffin “L.G.” Albright at St. Paul’s Lutheran church in Shelby, Texas. Lois is survived by her husband, her daughters and sons-in-law Allison and Chris Gorrebeeck of Austin, Texas, Ashley Giles and Myles Niemeyer of Ledbetter, Texas; her brother and sister-in-law David and Kelly Weinert of Brenham, Texas; her sister and brother-in-law Betty and Donald Huebner of Shelby, Texas; her grandchildren Kyler Giles, Ava, Griffin, and Gavin Gorrebeeck; Adrie, Haylie, and Colt Niemeyer; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law George and Zlata Betondo; and nieces, nephews, numerous cousins and other relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents Lydia and Wilfred Weinert, and her sister-in-law Millie Betondo. Lois was a woman with many talents and could accomplish more projects in one day than many do in a lifetime. Crafty should have been her middle name. From paintings to curtains to framed crosses, many people have touches of Lois in their homes. Her own home was always beautifully decorated with her ideas from HGTV which was always on. Lois was the model of unconditional love and touched the lives of countless children during her 46 years as an elementary teacher in Sealy, Aldine, and Brenham ISD. She remained involved in education by volunteering at her grandchildren’s schools after retirement. She prided herself on helping others and was honored to receive the “Service Above Self Award” from the Brenham Rotary Club. In addition to her contributions to education, Lois was instrumental in extending the coverage of the West End Water Supply to her community. Lois volunteered in many capacities and served as treasurer for Harmonie Hall in Shelby, Texas. She also gave of her time for the Shelby Fire Department and was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church. Anything her grandchildren wanted to do was her favorite! She was known to cook whatever “Nana’s Sweethearts” desired and participate in any activity at any hour at the request of any of her 7 grandchildren. While ALS did not define her life, it became very important to her that she spread awareness by openly sharing her story. She always taught us to be kind and she was the perfect role model. She even sewed eating aprons for other ALS patients while on her own ALS journey. Her family formed a charity in Lois’s honor to spread awareness and provide for the many needs of ALS patients called KINDNESS for ALS. It was Lois’s wishes that donations be made to this cause in lieu of flowers. Lois will be most known for spreading kindness into the world and her constant and beautiful smile that was present to the very end. Honorary pallbearers are her numerous former students who she was very proud of and still loved. Memorial contributions may be directed to Kindness for ALS, 1509 Sirius Cove, Austin, Texas 78732. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, Texas 77833. To post a tribute to the family, visit www.memorialoakschapel.com.
