Julia Ann Dutile

Julia Ann Colvin Dutile, daughter of Euel Richard and Annie Bernice Colvin, was born on January 10, 1943, in Start, LA.  She departed this life on November 13, 2021, at the age of 78.

On August 6, 1963, she was united in marriage to Gordon Dutile, and to this union two daughters were born.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Myrtle Hickman of Piqua, OH.

Judy is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Gordon Dutile, of the home; two daughters, Penny Rae Clarkson, and husband, Tim of San Antonio, TX, and Shonda Cherie Guthrie and husband, Jon, of Tuscaloosa, AL; four grandchildren, Campbell Clarkson and wife, Morgan, of Lexington, SC; Emma Clarkson; Lucy Guthrie and Henry Guthrie; brother, Marvin Colvin, and wife, Wanda of Start, LA; brother-in-law , John T. Hickman, Piqua, OH; sisters-in-law Janet Cheek  and husband, Ralph, of Holly Ridge, LA; Betty Lockhart of Natchitoches, LA and Jackie Lawson and husband, Turner, of LaPlace, LA as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.

She lived her early years in Start, LA, where she graduated from Start High School.  She attended Louisiana Tech, at Ruston, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education.  After she and Gordon were married, they made their home in St. Louis, MO, where Judy began teaching.  In 1970 they moved to Ft. Worth, TX, for Gordon to attend Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Judy continued teaching in TX.  In 1980 they moved to Bolivar, MO.  Judy completed her master’s and Education Specialist degrees at the University of Central Missouri.  She was employed at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar for twenty-five years, retiring December 2008.  During her time of employment, she served as Director of the Child Study Center, Assistant Professor of Education, Director of Career Services and International Studies, and Advisor in the Success Center.

Judy professed her faith in Christ early in life and was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Bolivar and Brenham.  She was involved in many phases of church work, possessed a deep faith in God and lived her faith in home, church, and professional career.  She had a heart for missions and participated in several mission trips: Chicago, Africa, Thailand, China, three trips to Brazil, and three to El Salvador.

She was a member of PEO, Chapter EZ, Bolivar, MO and DAR, Chappell Hill Chapter, TX.

Judy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She will be fondly remembered for her devotion to family, education, and church.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date at First Baptist Church, Brenham, TX, for family and friends.
