Joycine Hanath

Joycine Adela Eckermann Hanath of Chappell Hill, aged 83, passed away peacefully and joined the Lord in her home on October 3rd, 2021 surrounded by loved ones. Joycine was born January 29, 1938 in Austin County near Industry in the home of her grandparents to Barnet and Resada (Galle) Eckermann. She grew up learning German as her first language in the home and developed a love of her family and her heritage. Joycine was united in marriage to Louis Charles Hanath on June 29th, 1957 at the Industry United Methodist Church. Their union was blessed with three sons Rodney, Ardie, and Derrek. Joycine and Louis first lived in Houston then later settled in Chappell Hill where they built their home. They enjoyed traveling in both the US and Europe extensively and instilled this love in their family. Joycine was passionate about genealogy and loved to share this passion with many others. She enjoyed tending her flower beds, researching her family tree, collecting glass German Christmas ornaments, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joycine was very involved in her community, starting with Boy Scouts, teaching Sunday School,  4-H, Chappell Hill Historical Society, Texas German Society, Washington County Genealogical Society,  Washington County Fair and the Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department.  Joycine was the  Co- Leader of the Chappell Hill Word Famous Marching Kazoo Band and was Woman of the Year for both Washington County Chamber of Commerce and Chappell Hill Chamber of Commerce. She was a active member in the United Methodist Church.

Joycine is preceded in death by her loving husband Louis Hanath, her parents Barnet and Reseda (Galle) Eckermann, her father and mother in law, Richard & Anne (Herrmann) Hanath, sister-in-law Margaret Eckermann, brothers-in-law Bobby Wolff and Bennie Hanath. She is survived by her sons, Rodney Hanath and wife Becky, Ardie Hanath and special friend Joycelynn Green, and Derrek Hanath, brother & sister-in-law, Elgene & Doris Eckermann, Wendell Eckermann, sister, Sheryl & Thomas Schultz, sister in laws, Amelia Wolff and Gloria Hanath, brother-in-laws, Richard & Pearlie Hanath, Alvin & Bernice Hanath, Elwood & Mae Dell Hanath, grandchildren, Nicholaus Hanath and wife Mallory, and Aurbrey Eikenhorst and husband Blake, great-grandchildren Theodore “Teddy” Eikenhorst, Friedrich “Fritz” Eikenhorst, Tori Hanath, as well as another great grandchild due to arrive in January 2022 and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Blake Eikenhorst, Chad Eckermann, Donald Speiss, Thomas Schultz, Nicholaus Hanath, Casey Minavi, Johnnie Kopycinski, and Burnie Galle.

Honorary Pallbearers are Theodore Eikenhorst, Tori Hanath, and Friedrich Eikenhorst.

The family would like to thank Dr. William Loesch for years of excellent care, Amedisys Hospice of Bellville for their compassionate and loving care, and wonderful caregivers Ceselia Bustos RN, Dora Juarez, and Aundria and Ashley Riels for being by her side selflessly in her time of need.

Visitation will be Wednesday October 6th from 7am to 7pm with family present from 5pm to 7pm at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Funeral services will be on Thursday October 7th at 10am at Memorial Oaks Chapel with a private burial to follow.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Chappell Hill Historical Society, Amedisys Hospice, or the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library.
