James Chapman Jr.

Mr. James Neil Chapman, Jr., affectionately known as “Papa Jimmy”, passed away on July 14, 2021. He was 83 years old.

Visitation will be Friday, July 23, 2021, from 5:00 pm 7:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 11:00 am at Greenvine Lutheran Church with Deacon Cindy Robles officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Jimmy was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 8, 1937. He grew up with parents James Sr., and Katherine “Kay” (Gladish) and his sisters Kathy and Johanne. James graduated from Spring Branch High School in Houston, Texas. While attending school he met his future wife, Patricia "Pat" Sorrells.

On October 18, 1958, Jimmy was united in marriage to Pat. They were married for 59 years prior to her passing in 2018. They were blessed with four daughters and a son. They adored their children, grandchildren, and were overjoyed when great and great-great grandkids came along.

Jimmy was a hard worker and great provider for his family. He often held two or three jobs at once, doing whatever he needed to take care of his family. He was very generous with his time and talents. He was extremely skilled at woodworking, home repair, and DIY projects. Jimmy was very calm and patient and had a heart of gold.

Jimmy and Pat moved to the Burton area in 2001 to enjoy their retirement in the country. They absolutely loved Greenvine Lutheran Church and were very active with church activities. Jimmy loved helping out whenever he could. He especially enjoyed taking his grandkids with him to worship.

Jimmy is survived by children James Neil Chapman III (wife Sharon) of Burton, Patti Johnson (husband Bobby) of Santa Fe, Robin Chapman of Tomball, Becky Flores (husband Rudy) of Palestine, Kim Sequeira of Burton; 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren; sisters Kathy Syptak of Spring.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife; his parents, James and Kay Chapman, sister and brother-in-law Johanne and Joe Smith, and brother-in-law Charles Syptak.

Pallbearers will be Preston Sequeira, Collin Sequeira, Michael Chapman, Jordan Chapman, Danny Volkman and Carl Faigel, and Karl Tiedt. Honorary Pallbearers will be Nick Porter, Marc Chapman, and Lorenz Tiedt.
