Irma Leal

December 4, 1935 — December 19, 2021

Brenham, TX

Irma DeHoyos Leal, born December 4, 1935, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family on December 19, 2021. Irma was born in Laredo, TX to Isauro DeHoyos and Isabel Guajardo. Irma was raised in Laredo, TX, and graduated from Laredo Martin High School in 1954.

Throughout life, Irma counted many cities as home, but New Orleans, LA and Atlanta, GA occupied a special place in her heart. After a long employment with Central Power and Light (Laredo, TX), Irma retired in 1992 and moved to Brenham, TX to be near her son, Frank A. Leal, and her grandchildren. In Brenham, Irma worked and volunteered her services at the Senior Activity Center Retail Shop, BISD Cafeteria, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she was a faithful servant.

Irma was a loving mother of five who considered “family” her richest asset. Always the matriarch, Irma was fond of family get-togethers, where she wowed and entertained everyone with her excellent cooking, storytelling, sense of humor, and bigger than life personality. Irma was incredibly intelligent, self-sufficient, and fiercely loyal. Above all, Irma was a kind and generous soul who will be forever missed by her family and all who crossed her path.

In addition to her parents, Irma is predeceased by son, Alberto Xavier Leal, and sisters: Socorro (Victor) Moran, Teresa (Arnoldo) Virjan, and Isaura (Jesus) Leija. She is survived by children: Anna Laura Leal of Brenham, TX, Dr. Frank A. (Bea) Leal, MD of Brenham, TX, Monica Leal (Mike) Lutz of Huntersville, NC, and Claudia Leal (Michael) Garcia of League City, TX, 9 grandchildren: Barbara L. (Kevin) McCarty, Adan F. Leal, David C. Leal, Esteban A. (Heather) Leal, Michael D. Lutz, Alexandria L. Lutz, Gabriel X. Garcia, Kirstie Hanath, and Alyssa Lowe, 3 greatgrandchildren: Luke McCarty, Liam DeFord, and Kinsley DeFord.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Traditions Health Hospice Care along with the doctors and staff at Baylor Scott White Medical Center (College Station / Brenham ER) and St. Joseph Clinic (Brenham) for the excellent care given to Irma. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that all donations be made to Hospice organization or charity of your choice in remembrance of Irma.
