Hildegard Brinkmeyer

October 15, 1932 — April 13, 2021

Brenham

Hildegard Brinkmeyer, Age 88, of Brenham, Tx peacefully passed away on April 13, 2021 at Scott and White Hospital in Brenham. She was born on October 15, 1932 to Anna Marie Wittliff and Theodor Hurtig at the family farm in the Muellersville community. She was raised on the family farm along with her teen aged brothers and sisters who had lost their mother and were now blessed with Anna Marie as their Mother. They were Robert, Martha, Theodor, and Lydia Hurtig. Not too many years went by and they were getting married and raising their own families. Almost 8 years later she was blessed with a baby sister Dolores. Hildegard attended Washington County School at Salem and that was before school buses ran out in the country, so she rode a horse along with cousins and neighbors for a few years. Hildegard was baptized on December 18th, 1932 at her parent's home by Rev. William Utesch and confirmed on April 14th, 1946 at Salem Lutheran Church by Rev. A.J. Mohr. She went to work at O'Shea's drugstore in the old St. Anthony's Hotel. She married Alvin Brinkmeyer on November 4, 1951 at Salem Lutheran Church by Rev. W.C. Poehlmann. While Alvin served in the Army during the Korean War, she worked at Chas Brown and Sons in San Francisco, Ca. After his discharge, they returned to Brenham to build a home and begin their family. They were blessed with two wonderful children Andrea Rae and Koy Andrew. She went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. After 29 years of service the company closed the Brenham office and she went to work for the Brenham Police department for 10 1/2 years as a dispatcher. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school and VBS, was a member Dorcas Circle of the ELCA, At&t Pioneers, NARFE and American Legion Auxiliary and a life member of the CWA - Communication Workers of America.

She always cared for others and took the time to visit, talk on the phone and hand write cards for every occasion. She enjoyed cooking for her family and having everyone together for a meal and lively conversation. She never ran out of stories to tell about her youth and adventures. Her favorite thing was getting her hair and nails done by her granddaughters and great-granddaughters. Her least favorite thing was working cattle with Alvin. She stayed strong in her faith to the Lord and even in illness she would watch services on tv or listen on the radio.
She read her bible twice a day maintaining her strong faith and beliefs. She loved all of the many pets from over the years that she snuggled with, fed and loved. Her family was the most important thing to her and she loved keeping her grandchildren and great granddaughters. She was one of the sweetest persons anyone has ever met, a true angel on Earth, who has now
gone home.

She is survived by her daughter Andrea Young and husband Davey, her son Koy Brinkmeyer, grandchildren: Rachael Schramm and husband Brad, Kaci Brinkmeyer and Zechariah Brinkmeyer, and great-grandchildren: Autumn and Aurora Osagie, her sister Dolores Meier, her sister-in-law Laveme Blasingame and brother and sister-in-law Charles and Patricia Brinkmeyer. She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin Brinkmeyer on July 28th, 2002, her infant son Norman Wayne, parents Theodor and Anna Marie Hurtig and her parents-in-law Charlie and Malinda Brinkmeyer. her brothers and sisters-in-law Robert Hurtig and Mabel Winkelmann, Theodor and Esther Hurtig, her sisters and brother- in-law Helen Hurtig, Martha and Henry Wiesepape, Lydia and Edward Schroeder, Lilbum Meier, her brothers-in-law William and Verla Brinkmeyer, Alvin and Anita Thielemann, Raymond and Waldine Brinkmeyer, Richard Blasingame; and God children Theodore Hurtig and Terry Wayne Eben.
