Earl "Skipper" Stegemoller

Earl “Skipper” Stegemoller, 91, passed away on November 26, 2020. Skipper was a lifelong resident of Washington, Texas, and was well-known and well-loved in his community.

For those who wish to pay their respects, you may visit Memorial Oaks Chapel on Sunday, November 29, 2020, between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm for the viewing. Funeral services will be held at Frieden’s United Church of Christ of Washington, on Monday, November 30, 2020, at 10:00 am. The family looks forward to seeing you in attendance and appreciates your observance of proper social distancing and health precautions at this time.

Skipper was born on October 4, 1929, to parents Charles and Esther (Krueger) Stegemoller. He attended Washington School with his siblings, and later graduated from Navasota High School.

Skipper loved time spent outdoors, and enjoyed making his living as a cotton farmer and cattle rancher. He was also an owner of Stegemoller Grocery (Skipper’s Store), which he and wife Alverne owned and operated for 30 years near their home in Washington. He also served friends and neighbors by providing custom hay baling. He loved improving his land by caring for it and planting trees.

In his spare time, Skipper was a dedicated sports fan and especially enjoyed supporting the Brenham Cubs. His favorite event of the year was the annual Super Bowl party.

Skipper is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Alverne; children and their spouses, Lauren Bush, Ellen Wells (husband Brent), April Duch (husband Ray), Mike Stegemoller (wife Candie); grandchildren, Kevin Bush (wife Bonnie), Jason Shay, Ronnie Shay (wife Loreen), Russell Shay (wife Morgan), Michael Stegemoller (wife Vanessa), Katie Roberts (husband Philip); Robert Shay (fiancé Amber), Ryan Duch, Nick Stegemoller (wife Tasha), 13 great-grandchildren; and family friends James Shay, Grace Parker, Rose Helen Guenther (husband Jimmy), Pat Boenker (husband David), Joyce Havard (husband Morgan), and Edward Leiber.

Skipper is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Janet Leiber, brothers Johnnie and Clarence, and son-in-law Walter Bush.

Pallbearers will be Skipper’s grandchildren. The family honors good friends Pete Mazurkiewicz, John Neal Roese, and Will Stolz by naming them as Honorary Pallbearers.
