Curt Campbell

September 12, 1955 — August 1, 2022

Brenham, TX

Curt Campbell was - in the words of Joe Walsh - just an ordinary average guy. But to those

who encountered him, Curt was nothing close to ordinary. Everything he did, he did with

precision. Christmas lights - the exact same distance apart. His yard - his work of art.

Curt passed away in his home on Monday, August 1, 2022. Curt - the youngest of four

children - was born in Hagerstown, Maryland to William and Margaret Campbell on

September 12, 1955. He graduated from Grapevine High School in 1974, worked during the

day, and went to night school at the University of Texas at Arlington; then moved on to

Stephen F. Austin State University where he received both a Bachelor of Science and a

Master of Science in physical education and English. Curt began his career as a coach and

teacher in Douglass, Texas in the fall of 1979. He then moved on to Mexia where he coached

and taught for three years. After a brief career in financial consulting, Curt realized his

calling was in education. He returned to coaching and teaching in Lockhart, where his girls’

basketball program was very successful and generated a number of collegiate players. After

seven years in Lockhart, Coach Ron Mills convinced Curt to move his family to Brenham

where he coached girls’ basketball and taught English until he became the lead counselor for

Brenham High School in 1998. Curt finished his thirty-seven-year career in education as the

lead counselor at Montgomery High School. During the last seven years of his life, Curt

worked at Saddlehorn Winery doing a variety of things he truly loved including making

wine, bottling wine, and selling wine; but mostly, Curt loved working with his friends Steve

and Juan.

Curt is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Tracy Macmanus Campbell; his two loving

daughters and their husbands, Marie & Travis Meier and Christine & Andrew Cmajdalka;

and his three beautiful granddaughters, Rose Meier, Harper and Hadley Cmajdalka. His

mother, Margaret Kohoutek, his sister, Wendy Campbell, his brothers, Wayne Campbell and

Bruce Campbell. His brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and a number of nieces and

nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William Campbell, and his father-in-law

and mother-in-law, Jerry and Caroline Macmanus.
