Claudene Stolz

October 12, 1926 — January 4, 2021

Claudene Jacobs Stolz, longtime Brenham resident and wife of the late Roy J. Stolz, went to be with Jesus on the morning of January 4, 2021. Claudene was born October 12, 1926 in Goldthwaite, Texas, to parents Claude Franklin Jacobs and Letha Jane Smith Jacobs. She was named for her aunt Zelda Smith Rea and her father Claude and was a fraternal twin of Paul Rea Jacobs. Other siblings were older sister Falba LaVerne Kelley and older brother Charles Leahlon Jacobs, all which preceded her in death. Claudene grew up in Houston attending Thomas Jefferson Elementary School and Jeff Davis High School (1944), where she was named Senior Favorite and Sweetheart of Davis. Her talent was jitterbug and tap dancing and she once was named the Jitterbug Queen of Houston. During World War II, she was introduced to her future husband, Roy Julius Stolz, while on leave from the Navy. Soon after her high school graduation in 1944, she boarded a troop train to California to San Diego where she married Roy on December 21, 1944. In 1946, the couple gave birth to Rea Roy “Sonny” Stolz, the first of two children. It would not be until 1965 before the second son, Richard Scot Stolz, was born. The couple owned a Texaco Service Station in Houston until moving to Brenham, Texas (Roy’s birthplace) in 1955 where they purchased and operated the Roy Stolz Motor Company automobile dealership until 1982. Claudene and Roy were very active in numerous local civic and church endeavors. They were members of First Baptist Church of Brenham. She was instrumental in helping to establish The Brenham Heritage Museum and served for years as a docent setting up exhibits. Roy passed in 1986 and Claudene remained in Brenham until 2004 when she moved to be close to younger son, Scot and family in College Station. In 2015, she moved in with them and enjoyed many wonderful memories until her passing. She also looked forward each week to card games with friends and to worshipping with the caring people of Community Church in College Station.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Rea Roy “Sonny” Stolz and Priscilla Ann Gorner of Houston; son and daughter-in-law, Scot and Ashley Stolz of College Station; Grandchildren Robbie and Kelly Stolz, Marrianne Stolz, Matthew and Carlie Stolz, Sydney and Arron Pfleeger, Nathan Stolz, Sarah Kate Stolz, Jacob Stolz; great-grandchildren Hannah, Rachel, David, Oliva, Gracie, and Noah; nephews and nieces Danny Kelley, David Kelley, Diane Jacobs, Mike Johnson, Robbie Mayfield, Paul Rea Jacobs, Muriel Jordan, Philip Bell; sister-in-law Kathleen Jacobs, and special God-daughter, Debbie Campbell.

She will always be remembered as a person who put the needs of others above her own, who sought to serve rather than be served, and was happiest knowing others were happy.
