Christopher Ray Mathews, 32 of Sealy passed away suddenly December 17, 2020. He was born January 12, 1988 in Houston to Dennie Mathews and Betty Lutz. He graduated from Sealy High School in 2006. After graduation he enlisted in the Army National Guard where he served for 4 years.

Growing up Chris enjoyed working in the auction house and made many lifelong friends from the antique world of Hradil Auctions. At age 19 he began his journey in the oil and gas industry when he started at SeaCon in Bellville. It was then he met his travel buddy Joe Dirt and discovered his love for South Korea. He would venture through jobs at Forum Energy Services, RAE in Katy as a foreman, LB Foster in Willis, National Oilwell Varco (NOV), Basic Energy in Fairview, Oklahoma, back to NOV before his last job at Advanced Stimulation Technologies (AST) in Midland.

Chris married the love of his life, Ashley Babb, on September 7, 2019 at Peters Hall in Sealy. They had recently moved to Brenham to begin their life together, with the plans to start a family in the near future.

He is survived by his loving wife Ashley Mathews of Brenham, father Dennie Mathews and wife Beverly Mathews from Houston, mother Betty Lutz and Reagan Wohleb, grandfather Adolph Leschper of Sealy, sister Nikki Hammond and Juan Aguilar of Sealy, sister Dallas Mathews, brothers Beau Mathews and Houston Mathews, mother and father in-law Jacqui and Jon Babb, sister and brother in-law Hannah Babb and Zayne Babb of Brenham, and many nieces and nephews, family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his granny Edna Leschper, aunts Helen Rother and Debbie Cypher Guerrero, and cousin Jessica Hills.

Chris enjoyed fishing, shooting and collecting guns, anything computer from building, to programming, to operating, teasing his mom about her age, playing with the little kids and irritating the teens, hydroponics, collecting cigars and BBQing. His love for his nephew Jamie was unmatched and the bond with his new niece Raven was blossoming. He will always be remembered for his tall, red headed self, his sense of humor and jokes, his huge giving, selfless and loving heart, beautiful soul, and his love for his family and friends.

The memorial service for Chris has been cancelled.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, TX 77833.
