Carolyn Loesch, 79, passed away on January 20, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Tuesday, January 24, at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Funeral services will be at St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 25, with burial following in the church cemetery.

Carolyn Marie Reddehase was born on April 18, 1943 in Clute, TX to parents Melvin Henry and Wilma Marie (LaBeth) Reddehase. When she was a young girl, her family moved to Brenham. Carolyn was baptized on March 17, 1952, at Brenham’s First United Methodist Church.  Carolyn attended local schools and graduated from Brenham High School. She was employed by various businesses downtown, including Dixie Maid and Toubin’s New York Store. While working, she met her future husband Elroy Loesch, who worked at a nearby shop. They became fast friends and enjoyed spending time with each other’s families. Carolyn and Elroy were married on February 2, 1964.

Carolyn was a loving person and a caregiver all her life. Even while still living at home, she began helping care for her father, who had health problems following his military service in the Pacific theatre during WWII. Carolyn was devoted to her family, and after her and Elroy’s children came along, she was a doting mother. Carolyn loved preparing large meals for her children, and she especially loved making sweets. In her later years she entered her desserts in local contests. She also enjoyed embroidery.

Carolyn was known locally as a wonderful babysitter and Nan. She loved children and enjoyed caring for them. She was a faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church. She also helped others by donating blood whenever she could. Carolyn was also a longtime supporter of the Disabled American Veterans.

Carolyn and Elroy enjoyed traveling together. They began the tradition when they were dating, when they would accompany each other’s families on vacations and road trips. Later, they always took their own children on a summer vacation. They continued this into their senior years, joining the Round Top Roadrunners. They also enjoyed RV trips and going camping and fishing.

Carolyn will be remembered as a loving, compassionate person. Her love and generosity left a wonderful legacy. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Carolyn is survived by Elroy, her faithful husband of 58 years; their children Stephen (wife Wendy) Loesch, Connie (husband Troy) Oevermann, Debra (husband Ronnie) Nienstedt; grandchildren Andrew Wagner (wife Allysa), Brianna Hohlt (husband John), Kaitlyn Holder (husband Zach), Tyler Nienstedt. She had a special love for her great-grandchildren, Hunter, Adalyn, and Brooks, and she was very excited about the two more great-grands who are on the way. Carolyn is also survived by her sister Linda Borgstedte (husband Ted), sister-in-law Ann Reddehase, sister-in-law Nathalie Luedke, brother-in-law Donald Loesch (wife Barbara), sister-in-law Joyce Loesch; and special caregiver Pam Lockett. She will also be deeply missed by her beloved dog companions, DeeDee and Dozer.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her son Phillip in 2015; and also her parents.

If you’d like to make a contribution in memory of Carolyn, please consider donating to St. James Lutheran Church.

The family would like to thank her caregiver Pam Lockett, and also the doctors and nurses at Brenham Baylor Scott and White Hospital, who provided such wonderful care to Carolyn in her final days.
