Carolyn Louise Huebner was born November 23, 1940 in Bellville to parents Otto and Meta (Emshoff) Huebner. She grew up in the Industry/Bellville area on her family’s farm, working hard and helping with chores. She attended local schools and continued her education at Southwest Texas State (now Texas State University). She earned a Bachelor’s in Education and a Master of Arts. Carolyn spent her 33-year teaching career with Cypress-Fairbanks ISD as a high school math teacher. During which she was promoted to the department chair for 12 years.

On June 2, 1962 Carolyn was united in marriage to Cleburn Cordes. They were blessed with a son, David. Carolyn was a loving mother, and later in life she greatly enjoyed being a grandmother. Carolyn and Cleburn enjoyed spending time together and made many wonderful memories going on cruises around the world. She truly enjoyed traveling, sightseeing, and experiencing new cultures.

Carolyn was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cypress. She was generous with her time and contributed to her community by serving as town director, treasurer, and president for the local AARP chapter. Additionally, she volunteered with CAM (Cypress Assistance Ministries) and the Hobby Center.

Carolyn was very artistic and enjoyed many creative pursuits, including sewing, reading, and photography. She particularly enjoyed quilting and was quite prolific. Her personal collection included over 60 quilts (including one enormous piece with embroidered names and photos of everyone in her family tree), and she gave away countless quilts to friends and loved ones over the years. She made many lap-quilts that were donated. She was a member of the West Houston Quilter’s Guild, and for many years she would enter her work at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for competition.

Carolyn left a special impression in so many lives. She was a generous with her time, talents, and creativity, sharing the gifts God had given her. She will be truly missed.
