Arthur Lacombe

July 9, 1928 — April 30, 2021

Brenham, TX

Arthur Gordon LaCombe, 92, of Brenham, Texas went home to be with the Lord on April 30, 2021. There will be a private memorial service for family members only on May 29th at Kruse Village Chapel in Brenham at 1:00 pm. His remains will be interred in the Houston National Cemetery at a later date. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.”

Arthur was born on July 9, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Edward and Rebecca (Appleton) LaCombe. Some of his fondest memories of his early years were those spent living on The Village Farm in Langhorne, Pennsylvania with his family. After graduating from high school with honors, he went on to Edinboro Teachers College and then to Penn State College to study mechanical engineering. At the start of the Korean War, he enlisted in the newly formed United States Air Force. He was stationed in Colorado, Texas, California, and Iceland where he worked as an armourer, maintaining and repairing small arms and weapons systems.

It was in Denver, Colorado that he met and married Helen Imogene Perry, and together they recently observed their 70th wedding anniversary. After being discharged from the Air Force at the close of the war, Arthur, Helen, Susan, and Stephen moved to Denver where Samuel, and Thomas were later born. Some of the family’s most cherished memories during those years are of times spent at grandmother Edith Perry’s cabin in the Colorado mountains with aunts, uncles, and cousins. While living in Denver, Arthur worked at the Gates Rubber Company while also finishing his engineering degree with the University of Colorado. Upon graduating, he and the family moved to Peoria, Illinois where he worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company in research and development for 28 years. Following his retirement from Caterpillar, he and Helen enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, as well as overseas, and often with Helen’s sister Donna and her husband Bob Watson. Arthur and Helen eventually settled in Brenham, TX and have lived there for the past 22 years. Arthur passed away after a period of declining health following covid. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all of the nurses and the team at Amedisys Hospice for their compassionate care for him during that time.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife Helen (Perry) LaCombe, his brother Edward LaCombe, Jr., his daughter Susan (Douglas) Daily, sons Stephen (Susan) LaCombe, Samuel LaCombe, and Thomas LaCombe, daughter-in-law Renee de Cervantes, grandchildren Michael (Caroline) Daily, Jonathan (Jenny) LaCombe, Christopher LaCombe, Sarah (Matt) McKinney, Tristan LaCombe, and Evan LaCombe, and great- grandchildren Madeleine and Harrison Daily.
