Virgil Earl Stiewert Sr., 87, of Brenham, TX, died on September 13, 2020 in Brenham, TX.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., September 18, 2020 at Memorial Oaks Chapel with Pastor Jill Vivroux officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery.
A visitation will be held at 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 17, 2020 at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Mr. Stiewert was born on August 23, 1933 in Carmine, TX to Reinhardt and Laura Hilscher Stiewert. He was baptized on November 19, 1933 and confirmed on March 21, 1948 both in Martin Lutheran Church with Rev. H. Brumotte and Leo H. Simon. He married his wife, Ida Bell Loewe, on June 1, 1958. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Stiewert worked for over twenty years at Brenham Wholesale and Blue Bell before retiring. He liked to play dominos, especially forty-two, and loved to take a game of chance. He liked the Rockets, Astros, and former Houston Oilers. He liked to watch The Price Is Right, Family Feud, and Mollie B. He also enjoyed polka, country, and western music.
Mr. Stiewert is survived by his son, Virgil Stiewert, Jr.; son and daughter-in-law, Myron and Sherry Stiewert; sisters-in-law, Jane Koopmann, Mary Lou Simek, and Rose Ann Loewe; grandchildren, Jason Stiewert, Tanner Stiewert, Kellie Stiewert, and Demi and Peyton Smetana; and great-grandson, John Smetana.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Reinhardt and Laura Stiewert; wife, Ida Bell Stiewert; son, Randy Stiewert; and brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
Serving as pallbearers will be Daryl Dahman, Ricky Stiewert, Jason Stiewert, Louis Simek, Herbert Klatte Jr., and Clyde Vierus.
Memorials may be directed to Brenham Honor Guard.
