Valeria Hilda (Weidemann) Oevermann, age 94, entered the gates of Heaven on October 15, 2026. She was filled with joy to be reunited with her beloved husband, August G. Oevermann, who preceded her in death 17 years ago. They were married on November 19, 1950, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burton and treasured 59 years of marriage together.
Valeria was born on November 20, 1931, in Somerville, Texas, to Herbert P. and Alma (Dietrich) Weidemann. She was baptized on December 27, 1931, at St. John’s Church in Burton and confirmed there on May 25, 1947.
Valeria grew up on a farm in Burton, where she met the love of her life in a cotton field. She was always proud to tell the story of how she could easily pick more cotton in a day than August could! Their love story began in those cotton fields and grew into a lifetime of love, family, and cherished memories.
Valeria dedicated 37 years of service to the Brenham Independent School District food service department. She was an amazing cook and loved to bake, sharing her talents and love through the meals she prepared. Her specialties included chicken stew, dressing, and sweet rice. Her daughter will tell you that trying to recreate Mom’s recipes was no easy task, as everything was made with a pinch of this and a dash of that. Her cooking was special because it was uniquely hers, made with love and a lifetime of experience.
Valeria was also an avid sports fan who loved watching baseball and football on television. She could recall the details of most games and was always happy to share her thoughts with anyone willing to listen. A special thank-you to Ed for spending so much time chatting with Mom and letting her talk as long as she wanted.
Valeria is survived by her son, August Gene (Naomi) Oevermann, and her daughter, Wanda Lynn (Mark) Kramer. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Holly, Lance, Emily, and Addison Lehde; Heath, Brooke, Duke, and Decker Durham; Melissa and Patrick Harper; Brandy, Jose, Anthony, Justin, Tenley, and Kingsley Monares; Leslie, Casey, Cannon, and Lila Hamilton; Michael Kramer and special friend, Faron; and Tracie and Jordan Ely.
She is also survived by her sister, Verna Mae Wunderlich; sisters-in-law Natalie Ginn, Rose Kenjura, and Marilyn Oevermann; and numerous other family members and loved ones who will cherish her memory.
Valeria was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Alma Weidemann; her parents-in-law, August H. and Elsie (Jaster) Oevermann; her brother, Herbert F. Weidemann; her sister, Geraldine Beckham; her brothers-in-law George, Otto, Charlie, Lewis, Edwin, and Harold Oevermann, Robert Beckham, Gerry Ginn, and Bernard Kenjura; and her sister-in-law, Gladys Oevermann.
Valeria spent her final months at Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she received compassionate hospice care from Amedisys. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Lisa, Michelle, Neisha, Irma, Nora, and Farlice for the kindness and care they provided to Valeria during this time.
A very special and heartfelt thank-you goes to Nancy for the many years she spent helping Valeria’s daughter care for her. Her years of love, help, and dedication will never be forgotten.
Valeria leaves behind a lifetime of memories, a family who loved her dearly, and a legacy of hard work, home-cooked meals, family traditions, and love. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is once again reunited with August, the love of her life.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
The funeral for Valeria will be held Sunday, October 18, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Eben Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin with Pastor Pat Dietrich officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 17, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Serving as pallbearers will be Heath Durham, Lance Lehde, Michael Kramer, Anthony Monares, Jose Monares, Justin Monares, and Patrick Harper. Her great-grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Eben Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin or Amedisys Hospice.
