Travis F. Heins, 75, of Brenham, died Sept. 18, 2003, at Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mr. Heins was born Oct. 28, 1927, in the Greenvine community of Washington County, Texas, to Eton and Lena Oevermann Heins. He was baptized and confirmed in St. John s United Church of Christ in Burton. Mr. Heins attended Burton School and served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an anti-aircraft sergeant. On Nov. 23, 1947, he married Lorena Bethke in St. John s United Church of Christ in Burton. Mr. Heins was a member of St. John s United Church of Christ in Burton. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Lanny Strong of Chappell Hill; grandchildren, Chris Rust of Huntsville and Travis Jon Rust of Galveston; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clenwood and Lydia Heins of Burton and Hugo and Fay Heins of Somerville; sister and brother-in-law, Perlie and Weldon Klaus of Shelby; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Alice and Ben Dannhaus of Brenham, Edwin Bethke and Alvine Bethke, both of Burton; dear friends, Meredith Andreas and Amanda Palfy; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorena Heins, on Jan. 22, 2002; his brother, Louis Heins; and his sister, Esther Mertz. The funeral service will be held Sunday, Sept. 21 at 3:30 p.m. in St. John s United Church of Christ in Burton with Pastor Glen Schoeneberg officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors at Memorial Oaks Chapel Saturday, Sept. 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Edward Schulte, Sonny Schulte, James Becker, Elwood Draehn, Robert Kitzmann and Glenwood Vierus. Honorary pallbearers will be Clarence Jaster, Leo Schubert, August Pahmiyer, August Oevermann, the Texas Highway Department employees and his neighbors. Memorials may be given to St. John s United Church of Christ, the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
