Tommy Wayne Wimberly passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital in Bryan, Texas on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, after a tough battle with pancreatic cancer. He was always a fighter and successfully won his battle with cancer twice in the past. This one was his toughest, but leaning on his faith in God, he is now at peace with our Heavenly Father.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Cheryl Harris; daughter Kimberly Lambeth, son-in-law Robert and grandchildren Zachary and Lindsay; daughter Brandi Gilliland, son-in-law Jeff and granddaughter Ashley; sister Sandra Wimberly; niece Shari Crispi and many other close relatives.

Tommy is predeceased by his parents TW and Nelda Wimberly, brother Michael Ray Wimberly and his much-loved horses, donkeys and dogs.

Tommy was born on June 25, 1948, to TW and Nelda Wimberly. He was raised in Houston, Texas, graduated from Galena Park High School, attended San Jacinto College until joining the US Army in 1967. He served in Vietnam as a door gunner in the 118th Assault Helicopter Company. His return took him to a career in the oil and gas industry, including Union Texas and El Paso Energy. During his career, he was able to travel the world and made many lifelong friends along the way.

Tommy's interests included trail rides and team penning with his horse, Bart. Tommy's BBQ cooking team, The Klassic Kookers, competed for over 20 years at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo BBQ Cookoff and others across Texas. Him and his pit crew received many trophies and accolades. His brisket recipe was included in the Legends of Texas Barbecue Cookbook.

He also loved riding his Harley Davidson, with many rides to Big Bend with his fellow biker brothers. He was also a proud member of the Patriot Guard Riders, standing for fallen soldiers from the Iraqi war.

Tommy loved NASCAR, attending many races and gathered with fellow NASCAR enthusiasts on Sundays to watch the races. At one of these Sunday races, is where he met Cheryl, another NASCAR fan.

He and Cheryl married in 2014 and made their home in Burton, Texas. From there he took interest in the Classic Car world and attended many events, proudly showing off "Bugsy", his 1929 Maroon Plymouth Coupe. He cofounded the Annual Burton Classic Car & Truck Show benefitting The Sons of the American Legion from 2018 up until this past June.

A memorial gathering for Tommy will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:30 at Memorial Oaks Chapel located at 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, Texas. The memorial service will begin at 11:30 am. Inurnment will be at a later date at Houston National Cemetery.
