Theodore Rau

Theodore Otto Rau, 87, of Brenham, died Oct. 3, 2003 in College Station Medical Center in College Station. Mr. Rau was born July 17, 1916, in Wiedeville, TX, to Fritz Sr. and Louise Kalkhake Rau. He was baptized Oct. 1, 1916, in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wiedeville and was confirmed March 29, 1931, in the same church. He attended Wiedeville School. On April 16, 1938, he married Anna Herrmann in St. John Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill. Mr. Rau was retired from farming, ranching and Walter Thielemann Construction and Jimmie Hahn, Inc. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wiedeville, where he was a member of the Brotherhood, and had recently become a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill. Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and Kervin Finke of Brenham, Deanna and Charles Giese of Brenham and Carol and Weyman Leiber of Cypress; sister, Minnie Moehrig of Yorktown; sisters-in-law, Cecelie Rau of Taylor, Elsie Herrmann of Brenham, Geneva Herrmann of Brenham and Rosa Lee Herrmann of Hempstead; 8 grandchildren, Gayle and Darrell Himly, Vanessa and Donald Schwab, Troy and Stephanie Giese, Reschele and Phillip Lawrence, Kevin and Anna Finke, Lisa Finke, Todd Giese and Kristy Leiber; and 6 great-grandchildren, Savannah and Samantha Schwab, Kallie Finke, Conner Himly and Camryn Finke and Scott Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 63 years, Anna Rau, who died on Dec. 13, 2001; brothers, Charlie Rau, Arnold Rau, Fritz Rau, Gilbert Rau and Otto Rau; and sisters, Hertha Kalbow, Edna Rodenbeck, Erna Jahnke and Lillie Spreen. The funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5 in St. John Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill with the Rev. Dr. Sue Beall officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
