Samuel Pool

December 7, 1957 — May 17, 2025

Samuel Edwin Pool went into the presence of his loving Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 17, 2025 at the age of 67 years, 5 months and 10 days. He passed away suddenly at his home in Garland, Texas of a heart event and complications of Parkinson's.

Samuel, given life, was born on December 7, 1957. He was born in Dallas Texas at Methodist Hospital, the first child of Fletcher Meredith Pool and Joyce Earlene (nee Winters). A sister Dorene Sue joined him in 1960, a brother James Otis in 1964 and another sister Sylvia Lynn in 1967.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Plano, TX for 33 years and prior to that a member of Zion Lutheran in Dallas. His adult confirmation verses were Romans 11:33-36: "Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor? Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid? For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen."

When he was 3 years old the family moved to Colorado. Samuel showed exceptional talents at school. He graduated from North High School in Denver at the top of his class in 1976. While he was still in High School he worked part time at the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration campus in Boulder, Colorado doing database mapping programming. He graduated from the Colorado School of Mines 1980 with Honors earning a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics He was hired by ARCO (Atlantic Richfield Company) in Dallas in the summer of 1980. It was a record hot summer he remembered well. He traveled for work all over the country. While at ARCO, he saved the company time and money when he programmed the merging of two disparate databases. The company had estimated it would take months of work. Samuel programmed so that it was done in about two days. The computer room staff became nervous with the attempt as the computers were "grinding away" to get it done. Later in his career, he was hired by Raytheon where he also did database programming for satellite mapping and database programming for mapping the ocean floor.

He met the love of his life Dorothy Jane Schulze on a blind date July 4, 1984 and they married on October 5, 1985 in Millican, Texas at Millican United Methodist Church. He often praised God for the gift of marriage. He had a great interest in electronics and old radios and repaired or built various electronic devices. He inherited from his father the love of guns. He enjoyed the years of being with his boyhood friends and told many intriguing stories of the things those boys did and observed. Musical interests were a big part of his life and he enjoyed artists from George Harrison to Waylon Jennings. He even purchased and tried to play a theremin. He desired to learn keyboard, as a child, but it did not happen. He would talk about his faith at the dinner table with family. Some recent words to Dorothy were "We don't get to stay" meaning we will be called from our earthly lives. He was loved and will be missed.
