Ruth L. Thomas, 82, of Katy, Texas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 9, 2025. She was born on June 12, 1943, in Brenham, Texas, and was the daughter of Alvin and Nelda (Duesterhoft) Lanford.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her son, Brock Thomas, and his wife, Trisha, as well as grandsons, Ryan and Zachary Thomas, and Zachary's wife, Jossalyn. She is also survived by her sister, Evelyn Lanford Blakely, and brother, Al Lanford, and his wife, Tracey. She also leaves many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
After having been born in Brenham, Ruth's family soon moved to Houston where they lived in the Denver Harbor neighborhood. As a child, she attended Faith Memorial Church where she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized. Ruth would eventually graduate from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1961. After working at American General insurance for a time after graduation, she would later go on to work at both Armco Steel and National Oilwell until her retirement.
Ruth loved many things. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Whether it was raising her son, Brock, spending time with her grandsons, or being with her extended family when she could, those times brought her great joy. Over the last several years she especially cherished the time she was able to spend with her eldest grandson, Ryan, doing countless jigsaw puzzles every week. She also loved watching the Astros, having followed them closely since their days as the Colt .45's.
The family is thankful for all the dedicated care and assistance she received the past several months at Memorial Hermann Katy, Ignite Medical Resort, and Sterling Oaks Rehabilitation. They also want to thank all those who lifted up her and her family in prayer, especially all the pastors, staff, and volunteers from Second Baptist Church who visited and prayed with her.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham, Texas. To post a tribute to the family, please visit www.memorialoakschapel.com. The family will have a private graveside service at a later date. For those wishing to make a memorial contribution in her honor, contributions can be made in her name to The Brookwood Community at 1752 FM 1489, Brookshire, Texas 77423 or online at www.brookwoodcommunity.org.
