Ruth Free

Ruth Free, 96, former resident of Brenham, passed away on December 31, 2023. Visitation with family will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00, January 4, 2023 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, Brenham. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Friday, January 5, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville with burial following in Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Ruth was born on August 6, 1927 to Otto and Bertha Kammerer Wehrman in Prairie Hill, TX. She was baptized at St. Johns Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill on September 4, 1927 and confirmed on September 15, 1940 at Zion Lutheran Church.  On March 5, 1950 she was united in marriage to Alvin J. Free also at Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville. After being married Ruth and Alvin moved to Pasadena, TX and lived there for 33 years, and upon retirement in 1982 Moved back to Brenham. They resided there until October 2018 at which time they moved to The Isle at Waterchrest in Bryan

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, American Legion, Sons of Herman, Bluebonnet Club and Shell Retirees.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Francis Krammerer and infant sister, Gale; brother, Jesse Wehrman.

Survivors include her husband, Alvin Free; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Judy Free; grandchildren, Misty and husband, Mark Stevens, Sean and wife, Sarah Weathers, Kandis and husband, Mike Burden; great-grandchildren Sydne Stevens, Austin Stevens, Kynlee Stevens, Weston and Alyssia Weathers, Wyatt Weathers, Cash Burden and Braylee Burden; great-great-grandchild, Waylon Weathers.

Pallbearers will be Mark Stevens, Mike Burden, Sean Weathers, Cliff Miller, Austin Stevens, Weston Weathers and Wyatt Weathers. Honorary Pallbearers are Eugene Horrack, Robert Mantey and Wesley Westerfeld.

In lieu of flowers memorials in Ruth’s name can be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
