Ruby Emily Ida Sander Kobs Lange passed away peacefully in her, home on the evening of August 10, 2025 at age 85.
Ruby was born February 12, 1940 at home in the New Wehdem community of Austin County, Texas to Paul Henry Sander and Selma Tiemann Sander. Ruby grew up essentially as an only child; her younger sister, Rosalie passed away at the age of 2 in 1948. As such, Ruby played an important role in helping support the running of the family farm - including picking of crops, teaching herself to sew, and helping raise their animals, including a favorite goose. However, it was in church Sunday school that she first learned to speak English, given that German was spoken at home - she went on to be confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Phillipsburg, Texas.
It was through family friends that she met her first husband, Floyd Harvey Kobs - Floyd also grew up speaking German at home and he had just returned from the Korean War a few years earlier to work their family's dairy. They were married on June 24, 1956. Floyd and Ruby took over the running of the Kobs dairy farm which was in operation through 1991.
In addition to supporting operations on the farm and raising of their three children (Donna, Connie, and Nelson), Ruby always had a smile to share and looked beautiful. She was gifted and talented in - cooking, baking, canning, making sausage, seasonal decorating, embroidering, sewing, gardening, hosting family and holiday gatherings. It gave her such joy to share what she made with others. As a family, Ruby and Floyd enjoyed times they could get away for vacation: this included road trips to National Parks across states in the American West including Crater Lake, Yosemite, and Yellowstone; it also included some motorcycle adventures for them with friends as well. She eventually turned her home décor skills into an antique business that she operated from the family property for a few years Though the dairy farm was not in business, the property and its ranch herd persisted and they both continued to have visits to and from children, grandchildren, and great-children who spread from Texas to Washington and North Carolina. They gave her great joy.
After suffering a stroke in 2012, Floyd's health continued to decline until his passing January 2013. During this time, Ruby received support from long-term family friends, Donna and Gary Lange. After Donna's passing in December, 2013, Ruby in turn helped to provide support for Gary. This friendship blossomed into a second love for them both and they were married April 26, 2015, at Gary's farm which became her home too until her death. There they enjoyed times by the poolside with family, moments spent with their beloved animals, and dancing to classic records with each other.
Ruby is survived by her husband Gary and her children Donna Kobs Hammons, Connie Kobs Lehmann and husband Mark, and Nelson Floyd Kobs and wife Sandra; her stepchildren: Dant Lange and Little Stacy, Brandi Lange Conway, and Harper Lange and wife Natalie, her grandchildren Jonathan Wells and husband David, Joseph Wells and wife Emma, Brent Kobs, and Trevor Kobs; her great-grandchildren Noah Wells and Jonah Wells and numerous other relatives and friends.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and sister; her first husband, Floyd Harvey Kobs, and by her grandson, Phillip Mark Lehmann.
The family would like to express its sincerest gratitude towards the caregivers with Brazos Valley Hospice who supported Ruby in her final weeks.
