Ronald "Ronnie" Charles Schlottmann, 78, beloved husband of Janice Ann Schlottmann, went peacefully to his Heavenly Father on October 5, 2025, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in College Station, Texas.
Ronald Charles Schlottmann was born on February 19, 1947, in Brenham, Texas, to Carl Andrew and Bonnie Jean Gajeske Schlottmann. He was baptized on May 11, 1947 and later confirmed on April 15, 1942, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham.
Ronnie attended Brenham area schools and graduated from Brenham High School in May 1965. He continued his education at the University of Texas, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in May 1970, and proudly completed the Navy ROTC program, beginning what would be a life of honor and service.
On May 30, 1970, Ronnie married the love of his life, Janice Ann Herrmann, and together they shared 55 beautiful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. He remained a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham, where he faithfully served and even took on the role of Sunday School superintendent for two years.
Ron's life was full and purposeful. After graduating from the University of Texas and completing the Navy ROTC program, he entered active duty in 1970 as an Ensign. Following training in Philadelphia, he and Janice traveled to Hawaii, where he was assigned to the USS Inflict (MSO-456), a minesweeper stationed in Hawaii and Guam. Ron served as an intelligent lieutenant for three years and returned to the States with distinguished honors after proudly serving in Vietnam.
Upon returning home to Brenham, Ron opened Schlottmann Tire Company, which he operated for 20 years. During those years, he remained active in the community - serving as a devoted band parent, providing homemade barbecue sandwiches for football games and band fundraisers, and coaching his son's Little League baseball team for four years.
After selling the tire company, Ron embarked on a new chapter as an educator, teaching physics, chemistry, and math at Bay City High School, Bellville High School , and Sealy High School. Retirement didn't slow him down; missing the ocean, he found joy and renewal in his passion for cruising, sharing that love with Janice as they explored the world together.
Known affectionately as "Papa," Ronnie was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who poured his heart into his family. He cared deeply for those he loved and found his greatest joy in the simple moments shared together - family outings, holidays, and celebrations that became treasured memories. With a heart of gold, the warmest smile as well as a twinkle in his eye, he brought light and laughter wherever he went.
Ronnie enjoyed many of life's pleasures - shopping, cooking, visiting family and friends, and attending his grandchildren's events - but his greatest hobby was cruising. He and Janice shared a passion for the open sea, taking over 50 cruises together through the years. He loved to share stories from his travels and always knew the best places to go and things to do.
Ronnie will be deeply missed by his loving family: daughter, Dr. Jennifer DeVoke and husband John of Brenham; son, Dr. Christopher Schlottmann and wife Lisa of College Station; and his precious grandchildren, Renee DeVoke and Sara DeVoke of Brenham, and Evan Schlottmann and Dylan Schlottmann of College Station. His grandchildren filled a special place in his heart, and he loved spoiling them any chance he could.
He is also survived by his brothers, Carl Schlottmann of Brenham and Don Schlottmann and wife Michelle of Burton; brothers-in-law Darryl Herrmann and wife Linda, and Jerry Herrmann; nephews James Schlottmann and wife Christy of Brenham, Austin Schlottmann and wife Lauren of Fort Worth, and Michael Herrmann of Brenham; nieces Cheryl Moran and husband Buzz, Rachel Villarreal and husband Digo of Austin, and Taylor Solomon and husband Spencer; and great-nieces and nephews Aidan Smith, Ethan Smith, Felix Moran, Connor Schlottmann, and C.J. Langley, along with many cousins and dear friends.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham, with Pastor Donna Krueger officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery.
