Romayne Aleece Stokes Lewis, a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and a woman whose generous heart blanketed countless lives, passed away on August 25, 2026, at the age of 70.

Romayne was born on January 27, 1956, to Doris and Gerald Stokes and was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Waltrip High School in 1974. That same year, on February 23, she married the love of her life, Thomas Edward Lewis. Together, Romayne and Thomas built a life centered around family, raising four children: Desire'e, Danielle, Grady, and DiAnna.

In 1989, the Lewis family moved to Bellville, Texas, where Romayne and Thomas raised their children and made their home for more than 25 years. Following retirement, they moved to Brenham in 2016.

Romayne worked various jobs throughout her life, but no title ever meant more to her than Mom and Granny. Her family was not simply part of her life, they were the center of it. And if you were lucky enough to be one of her grandchildren, there was very little Granny wouldn't do for you.

She spoiled her grandchildren rotten, loved them fiercely, and found tremendous joy in taking care of them. Whether she was traveling, spending time with family, cooking a meal, or simply making sure everyone around her was taken care of, Romayne was happiest when she was doing something for the people she loved.

Romayne truly had a heart of gold. She was the kind of person who would give to someone in need without thinking twice and would do anything she could to help another person. Her generosity wasn't something she talked about, it was simply the way she lived.

Her love was perhaps most easily felt around her table. Romayne loved cooking for her family and for others, and feeding people was one of the many ways she showed how deeply she cared. Her homemade rolls were legendary, and no Thanksgiving table was complete without her dressing. Those recipes became more than food; they became traditions, memories, and pieces of home that her family will carry with them.

Romayne also had a deep love for quilting and sewing. She could spend hours tucked away in her sewing room, listening to audiobooks while carefully piecing together quilts for the people she loved. Each quilt was a labor of love, hours of her time, patience, and care stitched together by hand. Those quilts will now hold an even greater meaning for the family and friends fortunate enough to have one. They are more than something she made; they are pieces of Romayne herself, tangible reminders of the love she so freely gave and something her family can wrap around themselves when they miss her most.

Romayne was preceded in death by her parents, Doris and Gerald Stokes; her sister, Cynthia Barber; and, most heartbreakingly, her daughter, Desiree Aleece Sullivan.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Thomas Lewis; her daughter Danielle Urbanovsky and husband Donald, and their children Dakota, Dusty, Dalton, and Daegyn; her son Grady Lewis and wife Candy, and their son Xander Lewis; and her daughter DiAnna Ross and husband Mike, and their daughters K'Leigh, Ariana, and Peyton.

For those who knew Romayne, her legacy will not be measured by the years she lived or the jobs she held. It will be measured by the people she loved, the family she cared for, the grandchildren she spoiled, the meals she placed on the table, the quilts she lovingly stitched, the people she helped without expecting anything in return, and the countless ways she made those around her feel cared for.

Her family will miss her cooking. They will miss traveling with her. They will miss knowing she was just down the hall in her sewing room, listening to a book while working on her latest quilt. They will miss the way she took care of everyone and the way she loved her grandchildren without limits. They will miss the familiar things that seemed ordinary at the time but now mean everything.

Most of all, they will simply miss her.

Romayne spent her life taking care of the people she loved. And although her place at the family table can never truly be filled, the love, traditions, generosity, and memories she leaves behind will remain woven into her family for generations to come.

She was deeply loved and she will be deeply missed.
