Roger Ellermann

August 11, 1932 — July 31, 2025

Roger Ellermann passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, July 31st. He was born on August 11, 1932 in Washington County to Raymond and Tillie Buerger Ellermann. He was baptized on September 11, 1932 and confirmed on March 30, 1947, both at St. Matthew Lutheran Church.

Roger graduated from Brenham High School in 1950 and then attended Blinn College for two years. He left to serve in the army in April of 1953 during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in April 1955. While stationed at Fort Bragg he was introduced to his Georgia peach, Mary Ann Owens. They were married on August 7, 1955 in Machen, Georgia. Their honeymoon was moving back to Texas to reside in Brenham. They were blessed with 2 children; one son Rallin and one daughter Regina.

Roger opened a business, Ellermann's Farm Products in downtown Brenham by the railroad tracks. In 1972, together with Mary Ann, they opened the True Value Hardware store, Farm and Home Center, on Highway 290. After 23 years, they sold the business to what is now Tractor Supply Company. His love for outdoor living and farm animals led them to move to the country in 1986. Their country residence was surrounded by birds and animals of all kinds. His most cherished ones were his peacocks, ducks and guineas. Although he loved animals, he was also an avid hunter. He cherished his time at the deer lease with his son Rallin and many other hunting buddies.

Roger earned his title of Grandpa through his grandchildren, Stephanie Holtkamp Koehler (Chris), Johanna Holtkamp Becker (Blake), Ranell Ellermann Riddle (Justin), Robin Ellermann Hubbard (Cade), and Jordan Pearson Rothermel (John). Their favorite times together included playing card games, eating ice cream, feeding the catfish, and celebrating Christmas in his big way.

Seven great grandchildren were born to bless Roger with the name of Big Bubba. They are Kannon Koehler, Knowles Koehler, Wyatt Rew, Ryan Diehl, Jones Riddle, Judd Riddle and Jax Riddle. These 6 boys and 1 girl provided Big Bubba with many laughs and smiles.

Roger is preceded in death by his wife; his son; his parents; and his in-laws Frank Owens and Bernice Bryant.

Roger leaves behind his daughter, Regina Ellermann Holtkamp and husband Don; his daughter-in-law, Dalene Ellermann Pearson and husband Roger; his granddaughters and their spouses, and the 7 great grandchildren.

Roger cherished his time with Doyle Wieghat, Justin and Amanda Dana, Bennie Ray Fuelberg, and Mike and Brenda Budell. These friends made frequent visits, provided meals, and made special memories with him. His neighbors Charles Meyer, Bruce Kettler and Mark Kettler were always ready to lend a helping hand.

Many thanks go to Brazos Valley Hospice and their special employees; Kelly, Emily, and Christina. These special ladies treated our family with love and constant care.

Visitation will be at Memorial Oaks from noon until 7pm on Sunday, August 3. Family will be present from 5pm until 7pm. A brief prayer service will begin at 7. Funeral services will be held at 10am Monday, August 4 at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill with burial and reception to follow at St. Matthew Luthern Church of Sandy Hill.
