Rebecca Ann Gaskamp, 93, died Friday, May 8th surrounded by family at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Brenham.
Ann was born April 1, 1933, in Winnsboro, Texas. She was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Belen, New Mexico. Ann graduated from Belen High School in 1950. She married Paul Gaskamp on October 15, 1950, with Rev. Paul Fisher presiding at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Brenham. They recently celebrated their 75th wedding ceremony with family and friends. She joined St. Peter's Lutheran Church in December 1957 and remained an active member until her death.
Ann was a fun-loving and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her greatest joys were her four grandchildren and two great grand-children. She babysat for years, making memories they will cherish. She loved playing 42 and pitch and would join in whenever asked. She was an accomplished sewer and crocheter. For many years she and Paul canned the various vegetables grown in their garden. She loved to go places with her daughters and all they had to do was say, "Mom, want to go? And she always said yes, whether it was to a bowling tournament or a dance competition. Ann was employed at Nat's Tiny Tots as office manager. After Nat's closed, Ann was employed at Old Brazos Forge until it closed. She was a Past Worthy Advisor of Order of Rainbow Girls and received the Grand Cross of Colors from Rainbow Girls in Belen, New Mexico. She served at St. Peter's for many years, taught adult Sunday School, was a part of Altar Guild and helped with the confirmation classes. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and was a Washington County Lady Lion.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Cleo Blackmon, sister, Sue Sigmund and niece, Carol Giles along with her in-laws, Louis and Melinda Gaskamp.
Ann is survived by her husband, Paul Gaskamp, daughters Linda Kocian (Don) and Nancy Thogmartin (Chris); grandchildren Amanda Bracey (Greg), Kristin Rigney (Daniel), Allison Kocian and Scott Kocian, great grand-children Emma Bracey and Madison Rigney, brother-in-law Robert Sigmund, cousins Penny Muncy and Corey Lloyd along with niece Gayle Gaskamp.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 12 from 5-7 p.m. A funeral service and celebration of life will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2026, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 8201 Old Gay Hill Road, Brenham, with Pastor Skip Stutts officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Lloyd Schwarze, Neil Reimer, Daniel Gaskamp, Matthew Gaskamp, Pat Gaskamp and Bradley Fischer. Honorary Pallbearers are Ann's grandsons: Daniel Rigney, Scott Kocian and Greg Bracy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church or a favorite charity.
