Ora Goldberg

February 3, 1930 — December 7, 2022

Burton, TX

Ora Lee Goldberg, age 92, passed away December 7th in La Grange, TX.  She was born February 3, 1930 in Burton, TX, to Otto and Lydia (Hedt) Bosse.  She was baptized March 30, 1930 at St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church by Rev. Walton and was confirmed in the same church on April 2, 1944 by Rev. Kniker.  She grew up helping on the family farm, and attended Burton Schools.  A May 1948 graduate of Burton High School, Ora Lee was a member of the Pep Squad and served as its treasurer.  She was also the secretary of her senior class, and a feature editor of the yearbook.  On September 12, 1948 she was united in marriage to Elwood Goldberg at St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church by Rev. Schwengel.

Ora Lee was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  “God only gives special children to special people” – when her daughter Agnes was born severely mentally disabled, Ora Lee took on the role of caregiver for the next sixty-one years. She always put others first and truly enjoyed simple pleasures – such as Sunday drives in the country, attending church, and visiting with family.  With the birth of her grandson Caleb, she took on the new role of “Nana”.  She patiently devoted time to Caleb, playing “trucks”, reading books, and cleaning mud off of little shoes.

Ora Lee was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elwood, her daughter Agnes, and her brother Ben Bosse.  She is survived by daughter Debbie Goldberg, grandson Caleb Goldberg and wife Courtney, and great grandchildren Jacob Penland and Stormi June Goldberg, all of La Grange.  She is also survived by sister-in-law Barbara Bosse of Brenham, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Wilburn (Butch) and Anntlee Goldberg of Brenham.  Also surviving are nieces and their spouses:  Lois and Doug Wise of Magnolia, Sandra and Jeff Gritter of College Station, Christine and Keith Muehlbrad of Burton, and Amanda Bosse and friend John Wilson of Brenham, numerous cousins, as well as great and great- great nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be from 5 PM to 7 PM Friday December 9th, at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.  Funeral services will be held Saturday December 10th at 10 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg with The Rev. Dr. Alvin Luedke officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Lois Wise, Doug Wise, Sandra Gritter, Christine Muehlbrad, Keith Muehlbrad, Amanda Bosse, W. Lee Hedt, and Calvin Hedt. Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg, Hospice Brazos Valley, or to a church or charity of your choice.
