Ola Casey

Ola Betts Casey died March 12, 2003, in Kruse Memorial Lutheran Village in Brenham, TX. She was born in Union County, AR, at Old Union Juno on June 11, 1902, to Sam Davis and Lizzie Perry Betts. She was the last surviving member of the Sam Davis Betts family. She was a longtime resident of Union County and El Dorado, and lived in Brenham, TX for many years. She was 100+ years old and was the oldest member of the Old Union Baptist Church. Her grandfather, William A. Betts, donated the land for the church to be built in 1880. Her family came to Union County from Tennessee around 1840. On Oct. 11, 1924, she was married to John M. Casey in El Dorado, AR by Dr. H.M. Geren. She was employed by Western Union. Mrs. Casey attended First Baptist Church in Brenham for 25 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Casey on July 30, 1968; and her 13 brothers and sisters. She is survived by three children, Ola Jane Martin and husband Dick Martin of New Brighton, MN; Margaret Batchelor of Corsicana, TX; and John Casey of Houston, TX; a nephew, Bill Betts and wife Paula Betts of Brenham, TX; great-niece and great-nephew, Catharyne Betts and Will Betts; eight grandchildren, Pat Batchelor of Corsicana, TX, Gary Batchelor of Dallas, TX, Bill Slininger of St. Cloud, MN, Marc Slininger of Randolf, MN, Linda Benson of Cannon Falls, MN, Lori Underdahl of Hampton, MN, Jim Slininger of Cannon Falls, MN and Stephen Slininger of Strasburg, PA; and several nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 16 in Old Union Baptist Church in Old Union, AR, with Rev. Phillip Miller officiating. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery in Old Union, AR. The family will receive visitors at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham, TX from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 14. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham, TX, 979 836-4564.
