Odis Glenn Haynes, 92, of Brenham, Texas, passed away at his home on June 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Odis was born on July 24, 1933 in Odell, Texas to John Odis and Velma Towry Haynes.
After graduation from high school Odis began his employment on July 9, 1952 with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Vernon, Texas as a lineman building open wire leads, placing cable to establish telephone service. His next assignment was in Lubbock, Tx. in 1954 installing and repairing telephones for Southwestern Bell. After a few years in this position he transferred into an office that posted assigned central office equipment and outside facilities and then transferred to the toll office and worked on carrier systems and Microwave equipment. In 1977 he accepted a management position and in 1979 moved to Rosenberg, Tx. where he was promoted four times before retiring on December 31, 1990.
Odis was united in marriage with Mildred Sander in 1986 at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Larry Beck officiating. After retiring they moved to the New Wehdem community where he grew hay and raised cows. His hobbies included woodworking and golf.
In 1998 Odis was appointed by the County Judge and Commissioners Court to represent Austin County on the Austin County Emergency Communications District (911) board of directors and was elected President in 1999 – 2008.
Odis is survived by his wife, Mildred Sander Haynes; daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth Anne and Richard Norman and Glenna Kay and Randy Andrews; son and daughter-in-law, John Glenn and Alyson Krenek Haynes and grandchildren, Cory D. Norman (Mary), Lindsay Norman Haas (Matt), Brittany Norman Scott (David). Leah Merryfield, Seth Andrews, Nathaniel Haynes and Dawson Elizabeth Haynes. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Ben Norman, Emeline Norman, Kennedy Haas, Branson Haas and William Scott; niece, Macky McClung and nephew, Dan McClung.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister and brother-in-law, Juanelle and Doug McClung.
A visitation for Mr. Haynes is scheduled from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, Texas. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 27, 2026, at St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem, 10362 New Wehdem Rd., Brenham, Texas, with Pastor Mark Neumann officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
