Obituary

Mildred Ashorn Kuecker, 84, of Brenham, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, at Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mildred was born on November 12, 1941, in Brenham to Henry and Edna Boenker Ashorn. She was baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn December 14, 1941 and confirmed there on March 25, 1956. After meeting at a dance, Mildred married the love of her life, Howard Kuecker, on May 1, 1965, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn, with Pastor Paul Hartfield officiating.

Mildred graduated from Brenham High School before earning her Associate's Degree from Blinn College in Brenham. She continued her education at Sam Houston State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, graduating in the spring of 1965.

Following graduation, Mildred began her banking career at South Central Savings in Brenham. Although the institution changed names over the years, her career remained in the same bank building on East Main Street in downtown Brenham. She retired from Guardian Savings Bank as Branch Manager. Throughout her career, she treasured the many lifelong friendships she formed with coworkers and customers alike.

Mildred was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, where she served on the Finance and Family Aid Committees.

She found great joy tending to her garden and canning the abundant vegetables she grew each year. She also enjoyed helping Howard care for their cattle and treasured evenings spent watching the sunset together from their back porch. Many weekends were spent playing pitch with their dear friends in their longtime card group. Mildred and Howard also shared a love of dancing and could often be found enjoying the many dance halls throughout the Brenham area. They also took pleasure in traveling and made many memorable trips together over the years.

Above all, Mildred treasured the time she spent with her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and created a warm and happy home for Kary and Wendy. She faithfully supported her children by attending stock shows, watching them exhibit cattle, and always looked forward to going to the Washington County Fair each year. Her grandchildren, Kailea, Lauren and Colin, lit up her heart like no other. She cherished every visit with them and always made sure fresh-baked treats were waiting when they arrived.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Howard Kuecker; her parents, Henry and Edna Ashorn; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ervin and LaVerna Kuecker, Clarence and Dorothy Kuecker, Elroy and Betty Kuecker, Evelyn and Ervin Schulze; brothers-in-law, Wilford Kuecker, Henry Kuecker, and Herbert Sebesta; and nephews Michael Kuecker, Craig Kuecker and Gregory Sebesta.
