Michael Robert Shaver

Michael Robert Shaver, age 77, passed away on March 3, 2026 and is now resting peacefully in Heaven.

Michael was born on February 18, 1949 in Sioux City, Iowa to Robert and Helen(Hamm) Shaver. Michael’s father passed away in 1951. When his mother, Helen remarried, Walter Voloshen – Walt became the father who raised him along with half-sister, Lynne Voloshen.

Michael graduated from Bishop Heelan High School in 1967. He married Kathy Besch in 1969 and together they raised their son, Scott, who was born in 1970 and daughter, Jennifer, who was born in 1972. He was blessed with three grandchildren: Nathan, Daniel and Ace Shaver.

He was always known for his love of the great outdoors and made the move with family to Colorado to enjoy camping, skiing and fishing.  In 1992, after moving to Houston a couple of years earlier, he married Martha Sue (Nash) Thornton.  Together they made their way to Burton, TX in the early 2000's.  Once in Burton, he started his own business- “The Old Barn Refinishing Company” where he refurbished and repaired antique furniture. He had a very creative mind and loved to play the guitar.  He became an active member of Bethany Christian Church in Burton, TX.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, and step-father. He is survived by his wife, Martha Sue Shaver of Burton, TX.; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Lisa Shaver of Thornton, CO.; daughter Jennifer (Shaver) Szabo of Louisville, CO.; step-son, Michael Thornton of Houston, TX. and half-sister, Lynne Voloshen of Los Angeles, CA., and his 3 grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Bethany Christian Church in Burton, TX. with Pastor Bob Hofmann officiating.
