Marvin Lee Fischer, age 88, passed away on August 31, 2025.
Marvin was born on March 2, 1937, to Fritz & Elsie Kelm Fischer in Washington County, TX. He was baptized and confirmed at Zionsville Lutheran Church. He attended Hoddeville, Prairie Hill and Gay Hill schools through the 8th grade, then he had to leave school to work on the family farm. On December 6, 1958, he married the love of his life, Esther Mae Lange at the Friedens United Church. At the age of 23, he was drafted into the Army. He was stationed in Germany for 2 years during the Berlin Crisis. Things he talked about during his time in the Army, was visiting Amsterdam and witnessing the Changing of the Guards at Buckingham Palace.
Marvin worked in construction for several years, then he went to work at Santa Fe Railroad in Somerville, TX until his retirement.
Marvin was active in the Gay Hill community where he lived. He was a member of the Gay Hill Volunteer Fire Department, the Gay Hill Sons of Hermann, the Gay Hill Shooting Club, and St. Peter's Lutheran Church. He loved playing cards, raising cattle and working in the hay field. Marvin was also there to support his children and grandchildren in all their activities, from sporting events, cattle shows and watching them show their fair animals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Walter and Annie Duesterhoft Lange, sister Esther Fischer Rhodes, brother-in-law George & Hortense Rhodes, and brother-in-law Luther Draehn.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Esther Mae, daughter Tammy Luetge (Scott), and son Bradley Bozie Fischer (Patsy). Grandchildren Chasidy Phillips (Jared), Colton Luetge (Addie), Julie Shumate (Clayton), and Paige Jaster (Justin). Great Grandchildren Jadyn Phillips, Cash Phillips, Laiken Luetge, Parker Luetge, Heidi Shumate and Scottie Mae Jaster. Sister & brother-in-law Walline Lorenz (George), sister Evelyn Draehn, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Marvin will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Chapel located at 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, Texas. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Gay Hill located at 8201 Old Gay Hill Road, Brenham, Texas with the burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Colton Luetge, Jared Phillips, Clayton Shumate, Justin Jaster, Brian Lorenz, Curtis Rodenbeck, Tommy Lange and Kenneth Lange.
Memorials may be given to St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Gay Hill or a charity of your choice.
