Lynn Levien, 69, devoted wife, mother, sister, Maw Maw Lynn, and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Wednesday, April 1, after a long battle with cancer.
Lynn Barie Richter was born on June 15, 1956 in Huntsville, Texas, to Barry Louis and Willie Mae (Spitzer) Richter. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill. Lynn attended Brenham area schools and graduated from Brenham High School.
Lynn married the love of her life, Kenneth Carl Levien, Jr., on August 18, 1979. After moving to Round Top to start their life, they welcomed their son, Dustin Carl Levien on September 8, 1982. Junior and Lynn became a part of the Round Top community and loved the life they built there.
Lynn remained close to her sisters Hope and Corliss after their parents passed away. She and Hope would meet several times a year, and they would visit their sister Corliss in Harlingen at least once a year.
In her final years, her granddaughter Maelynn was the brightest joy in Lynn’s life. One especially meaningful moment was celebrating Maelynn’s fifth birthday this past March. The family is deeply grateful that Lynn was feeling well and was able to share in that special day.
She worked for Briggs and Frazee (later Schneider, Frazee, and Matocha) in La Grange for more than 40 years before retiring. She continued part-time work for Sandra Kana the last couple of years.
Lynn enjoyed watching sports, remaining a loyal fan of the Houston Oilers before becoming a devoted Houston Texans supporter. She also followed the Dallas Cowboys and loved watching the Houston Astros.
A real country girl at heart, Lynn also loved going fishing. Just a couple of years ago for her birthday, Junior, Lynn, Dustin, and a couple of family friends went fishing at a small catfish pond near Round Top and had the best fishing day probably any of them had in their lifetimes. She was smiling from ear to ear that whole afternoon.
Lynn was not much of a hunter, but anyone who knows Junior will tell you that she nonetheless was proud owner of several firearms that she may or may not have ever fired. Junior once came home from the Round Top 4th of July parade with a new shotgun, and Lynn exclaimed that he was the only person she knew who would come home from a parade with a new gun!
Lynn is survived by her husband of 46 years, Kenneth Levien, Jr., her son Dustin Levien, daughter-in-law Yumi Kim, and granddaughter Maelynn Kim Levien of College Station, TX.
She is also survived by sisters and brothers-in-law Hope and Russ White of Dallas, Texas and Corliss and Larry Schoenemann of Harlingen, Texas, niece Karen Boykin and husband Bo, nephew Greg Schoenemann and wife Monica, several great-nieces and great-nephews, and other family and friends.
Lynn was preceded in death by her parents, Barry and Willie Mae Richter, father-in-law and mother-in-law Kenneth “Smokey” Levien and Konda Levien.
Lynn’s life was a testament to hard work, steadfast love, and hope and determination in the face of adversity. She devoted her life to caring for and supporting her family and friends in any way she could. She will be dearly missed by those who knew her.
We would like to thank MD Anderson Cancer Center for the outstanding care they gave her over the years. We would also like to thank Chris Pereiro, Bonnie Farris, Ashley Farris, JJ Reyna, Valerie Moore, Larry Clack and friends from Paw Paw’s Firehouse Cafe, friends at Round Top Church Christian Fellowship, and countless others for their continued help and prayers.
Visitation will be held at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Carmine on Friday, April 10 from 5pm to 7pm. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, April 11th at Bethlehem Lutheran Church at 412 S White St., Round Top, TX. A light meal will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Round Top Church Christian Fellowship, MD Anderson Cancer Center, or an organization of your choice.
