Louis Bugaj

September 12, 1925 — February 5, 2004

Louis Joseph Bugaj was born on September 12, 1925 in Chappell Hill, Washington County, Texas, the son of John & Hedwig Bilski Bugaj. He was baptized in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and was later confirmed there. He attended the parochial schools of St. Stanislaus in Chappell Hill and St. Mary s in Brenham as well as Brenham High School and Blinn College. In 1943, Louis was inducted into the United States Air Force and spent over three years in service to his country. On August 21, 1949, Louis and Rosa Drews were married in St. Mary s Catholic Church in Brenham. Louis was employed by Maddox Furniture Company in Brenham where he worked as an upholsterer for sixteen years. The first time Louis retired, it was from the City of Brenham where he had been employed as a gas maintenance worker for over ten years, the second time was from H.E.B. Grocery in Brenham. An active member of St. Joseph s Council #3287 of the Knights of Columbus, Louis was responsible for arranging weekly Bingo games for many years. He served the Council as Grand Knight for several terms and was a member of St. Joseph s Assembly-Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus. At the age of 78 years, Louis died in Trinity Medical Center-Brenham on the morning of February 5, 2004. Mr. Bugaj is survived by his wife, Rosa Drews Bugaj of Brenham; his daughter, Shirley Cook of Caldwell; and his sons and daughters-in-law: Charles Butch & Betty Bugaj and Chris & Tammy Bugaj all of Brenham. Also surviving are his grandchildren and their spouses: Lenny & Natalie Barrera, Angie & Craig Stickley; Kyna Love & Ryan Eastlick, Melanie & Scott Chasteen, Kyle Christopher Bugaj and Adam Michael Bugaj; his great-grandchildren: Dylan Michael Brant, Skylar Stickley, Morgan Stickley, Tyler Barrera and Nathan Barrera, along with his brother and sister-in-law: Johnnie & Helen Bugaj of Houston, his sister: Regina Jankowski of Houston, and his sister-in-law, Lucille Bugaj of Houston. Surviving as well are his foster daughter, Shirley Murphy and his foster grandchildren: LaKristia Rodriguez, Junior Macias and Jennifer Macias. Louis is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Paul Bugaj and a brother-in-law, Edward Jankowski. Visitation will begin in Memorial Oaks Chapel on Friday afternoon, February 6, 2004 at 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at which time a rosary will be prayed. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in St. Mary s Catholic Church in Brenham on Saturday morning, February 7, 2004 at 11 o clock. Fr. David Ivey will be the celebrant, assisted by Rev. Mr. William Januszewski, deacon. Burial will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery-Brenham. Serving as pallbearers will be Lenny Barrera, Scott Chasteen, Jr. Macias, Ryan Eastlick, Craig Stickley and Johnnie Januszewski. The family will consider all members of the Knights of Columbus, employees of the City of Brenham and employees of H.E.B. as honorary pallbearers. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Memorial Oaks Chapel; 1306 W. Main St., Brenham, Texas.
