Lois Bracher Greif was born August 7, 1933, to Emily (Hodde) and William Paul Bracher. She died peacefully at home on October 21, 2023.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Clint Bracher, and her husband of 57 years, Arthur G. Greif, Jr.
Lois is survived by her sister Agnes Bracher Barrett; her son Jeffrey and his wife Kamala; her son Andrew and his fiancée Sherry Walshak; and her grandchildren Eric Greif, his wife Justina Yen, and their son Landon Yen Greif; Drew Greif, and his wife Rebecca French; Alexandria Greif and her son Liam; and Benjamin Paul Greif.
As a girl, Lois lived in Port Lavaca, Texas on the family farm. Following her father's death, Lois and her mother moved to Houston. In 1955, Lois graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. While at school, Lois was introduced to Art Greif by a friend of her sister's, and the two were married in a small ceremony in Houston on November 2, 1957. She began married life as the wife of an Air Force pilot and continued her career working as a bookkeeper and office manager as circumstances allowed due to several military transfers and the births of her sons, Jeff and Andy.
Lois maintained a welcoming and immaculate home wherever the Air Force sent them, including Alabama, California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Texas. Near the end of his military career, Art and Lois built a home in Brenham, Texas. Lois worked as an office manager for the Brenham Veterinary Hospital, and after retiring from the Air Force, Art taught math at Brenham High School.
As the years passed, Lois and Art enjoyed bridge games with friends, travel around the world, and the exuberance of growing grandchildren. The extended family particularly welcomed their annual trips to Port Aransas, and everyone is grateful for those cherished memories and family holiday gatherings. Lois was an avid reader and member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church. After Art passed in 2014, she loved and stayed in her Brenham home, made most special by her wonderful bridge friends and pen pal.
