Laverne Fuchs

LaVerne Anna Fuchs, 74, of Brenham, died Aug. 6, 2003, at her residence.

Mrs. Fuchs was born on Dec. 24, 1928, to Emil and Louise Hodde Zibilski. She was baptized Feb. 24, 1929 in Zion Lutheran Church by Pastor Karl Mueller and was confirmed in 1941 in the same church by Pastor Fred Mgebroff. In 1947, she was married to Franklin Fuchs in Zion Lutheran Church by Pastor Fred Mgebroff. She received her education at Harrisburg School of Washington County.

When her children were growing up, she taught Sunday school for a number of years and was president of the Mother's Club. She was very active in organizations and functions at Burton schools, serving in many capacities. Mrs. Fuchs was a very loving and caring person, always thinking of others first. She liked to make pillows, quilts and embroidery pieces to give to family and friends, putting love in each stitch. Another special gift she shared with family and friends was her delicious angel food cake. Her family was her pride and joy, and she loved spending time with them. She loved to go dancing with her husband and visiting with all of her friends.

In 1987, Mrs. Fuchs was awarded Wal-Mart Retailer of the Year from the whole region. She was an excellent seamstress, taught by her grandmother. She used this blessing to help others choose fabric and sew clothes for their families and friends. Mrs. Fuchs was employed with My Way Grocery in Burton, Nat's Tiny Tots for 12 years, Perry's for six years and then Wal-Mart for 14 years. After retiring, she continued to sew for Little Angels for two years and fixed flower arrangements for Dora Kieke at the Green Cottage Florist Shop. She belonged to Burton Hermann Sons Lodge 55, Burton Fire Department Women s Auxiliary. She was an active member of St. John s United Church of Christ since 1947 and the Women's Guild Circle #2 at St. John's. She was a true, genuine blessing to all who knew her and she will be missed greatly.

Survivors include her loving husband of 56 years, Franklin Fuchs of Brenham; two sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis Lynn and Kathy Fuchs of Brenham and Robert Doyle and Rosi Fuchs of Brenham; one daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Louise and Gregory Wagner of Brenham; six grandchildren, Christy Fuchs of Brenham and fiancé David Moran, Courtney Fuchs Mason and husband Wes of Franklin, Justin Fuchs of Brenham, Cody Fuchs of College Station, Cullen Wagner and wife Melissa of New Ulm, Cameron Wagner of Brenham and fiancée Angela Racz of Bellville; great-grandson, Parker Lane Mason of Franklin; one sister, Joyce Zibilski Fuchs and husband Vernon of Houston; two brothers, Nelson Zibilski and wife Susie of Brenham and Nathan Zibilski and wife Carolyn of Magnolia; a brother-in-law and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9 in St. John s United Church of Christ in Burton with Pastor Glen Schoeneberg officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Fuchs will be in state at Memorial Oaks Chapel today until 9:00 p.m. She will be instate at Foehner Funeral Home beginning at 10:00 a.m. Friday. The family will receive visitors at Foehner Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8.

Pallbearers will be Justin Fuchs, Cody Fuchs, Cullen Wagner, Cameron Wagner, Courtney Fuchs Mason and Christy Fuchs. Honorary pallbearers will be Wes Mason, David Moran, Melissa Wagner, Angela Racz and all her special friends.

At the family's request, memorials may be given to St. John's United Church of Christ Building Fund or Hospice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.
