Obituary

Larry Lynn Earls Sr., 83, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 24, 2026.

Larry was born on April 8, 1943, in Baytown, Texas, to Linnie and Ozelma (McCain) Earls. He grew up in Baytown and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1961, where he was president of the Experimental Chemistry club, a member of the History Club and, most notably, a member of the Select Singers of Lee Choir. Shortly thereafter, he answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army, where he began his career as a member of the 82nd Airborne where he infamously never climbed the rope at the end of the obstacle course due to his age and rank as a "Captain"... sly dog. Due to his masterful evasion of the rope climb, he was selected to be a Military Policeman and finished his service in U.S. Army as a member of the Army's Criminal Investigation Division. Following his honorable discharge, Larry continued his commitment to public service by joining the Houston Police Department in 1967.

During his distinguished law enforcement career, Larry served in numerous divisions within the Houston Police Department, including Central Narcotics, Homicide, Internal Affairs, Auto Theft, Burglary and Theft, and Juvenile Divisions. Through dedication, integrity, and leadership, he rose through the ranks and retired as a Lieutenant in 2004 after many years of faithful service to his community.

Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn Earls; his parents, Linnie and Ozelma Earls; and his brother, Warren Earls.

He is lovingly remembered by his brother Michael Earls; his children, Wendy Nelson and husband Craig, Larry Earls and wife Shana, and Cristi Earls Jurischk and husband Jason; his grandchildren, Anthony Earls and Bobbie, Emerson Barnett and Dalton, Hayden Earls, Chris Ford and Megan, Craig Nelson and Beca, Chase Nelson and Kim, and Tyler Markle; his great-grandchildren, Emma Nelson, Hayley Nelson, Emily Nelson, Lily Nelson, Damian McNeil, McKenzie Ford, Maleia Earls, Maverick Earls and Wylie Earls; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and cherished friends.

Larry will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his service to his country and community, and the countless lives he touched throughout his years in law enforcement. His strength, wisdom, and steadfast character will remain an enduring legacy for all who knew and loved him.

A visitation for Larry will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, Texas.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel, with burial to follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Brenham, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers will be Craig Nelson, Chase Nelson, Anthony Earls, Hayden Earls, Christopher Ford, and Tyler Markle.

Donations in Larry's honor may be directed to Tunnels to Towers or the Gary Sinise Foundation.
