Larey Kieke

Larey Nelson Kieke, 91, of 609 Spinn St. in Brenham, Texas, passed away on November 6, 2002, at 12:51 p.m. He was born February 9, 1911, near Burton, Texas, the son of Henry Kieke Jr. and Alma Hinze Kieke. He was baptized in the Round Top Lutheran Church on June 25, 1911 and was confirmed in the Carmine Lutheran Church on September 6, 1925. Larey attended the Burton and Harmon schools and then continued his education at Blinn College. He completed his bachelor of science degree at Sam Houston University and his master of education degree at Texas A&M University. He was a devoted teacher for 43 years teaching at the Harmon and Greenvine schools, the principal of Burton High School and a professor at Blinn College. On August 12, 1934, he was married to Ida May Fuchs in the bride s home. Mr. Kieke was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities. He was a member of the La Bahia Turn Verein, Retired Teachers of Texas, United Methodist Men and the Wesley Sunday school class. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Romie Kieke. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ida May Kieke of Brenham; son, Llewellyn Kieke of Brenham; son, Mauriello Kieke and his wife Peggy Lynn Kieke of Monroe, New Jersey; and sister, Bernice Kay of Brenham. He is also survived by five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two stepgreat-grandchildren and many other family members and friends. The funeral service will be 10:30 am Saturday in First United Methodist Church, Brenham with Dr. Wesley Wellborn officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Pallbearers will be Ralph Theimer, Floyd Cooley, Milton Wickel, Bartin Garlin, Delbert Garlin, Malcolm Fox, Harvey Fox and Douglas Kay. Memorials may be given to either Hospice Brazos Valley or First United Methodist Church. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
