Joyce Adlene Gearing, 90 of Houston, passed away August 29, 2026 at her home.

She was born October 11, 1935 in Shelby, Texas to Paul and Lydia Rudloff Ehrigson. She was baptized as an infant at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelby and later confirmed in the same church. Joyce married Johnie Ray Gearing in 1966 and they shared 38 wonderful years together before his passing in 2004.

Joyce treasured the time she spent with her family and friends and created many cherished memories with those she loved. She enjoyed gambling, playing straight dominoes and 42 with her grandchildren, and playing bingo. Joyce was a crossword puzzle guru and loved keeping her mind sharp. She also enjoyed crocheting and latch work.

A devoted Houston Astros fan, Joyce proudly cheered on her team and rarely missed a game. She had a deep love for music and dancing, and her joyful spirit could always be seen when she was surrounded by the people and activities she loved most. Above all, Joyce will be remembered for the love, laughter, and wonderful memories she shared with her family and friends.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law: Ehrig P. Gearing and wife, Jamie of Jewett, TX; daughters and sons-in-law: Connie Landis and husband, Jack of Waller, TX, Cindy Friedrich and husband, Ed of Hockley, Carmen Hahn and husband, James of Bryan; brother: Paul Ehrigson, Jr. of Houston; her grandchildren and their spouses: Keith and Nicolette, Michelle and Chris, Justin, Jason and Kim, Brandon and Stephanie, Joshua and Christina, Morgan; her great-grandchildren: Laci, Landon, Kolt, Shelby, Kaitlynn, Kylie, Kaleb, Kolby, Kason, Kelsey, and Kinley; and one niece: Kim Gelsthorpe.

Joyce is preceded by her husband: Johnie Ray Gearing, her parents: Paul and Lydia Ehrigson and her sister-in-law: Martha Ehrigson.

Visitation with the family will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street, Brenham.

A graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at Shelby Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Keith Tucker, Chris Newcomer, Justin Landis, Jason Pampell, Brandon Keilers and Joshua Brooks.
