Jimmy Glyn Lunsford, 81, of Chappell Hill, TX, died on July 14, 2023.

A visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Houston, TX with Pastor Laurence White officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery in Phillipsburg.

Glyn was born on August 20, 1941, in Nacogdoches, TX to Nolen and Edna Mae Garrett Lunsford. He was baptized as a child and was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church on December 27, 1970. He married his wife, Joy Nell Glaser, on February 17, 1962.

Glyn had been a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church for over 20 years. He had also been a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, while at Immanuel he served as the Chairman of the Trustees and on the school board. He served as a medic in the Army-reserves. He served as a Houston police officer for 37 years in the Special Operations Division where he made life-long friends within the department who he considered family. While he was a dedicated police officer, his true loves were his family and his farms in Brenham and Nacogdoches. His pastimes included bar-b-queing for special events, carpentry and remodeling, fishing, and hunting with family. Glyn loved to cook for the holidays with his specialty being the biggest bone-in ham he could find and sharing it with his family and friends. He loved to share memories from his life adventures. He always took time to check on his family and friends and keep them updated on his latest projects. His most recent project was rebuilding his old tractor with his grandsons. He was extremely proud of his grandsons’ accomplishments and his family.

Glyn is survived by his wife, Joy Nell Lunsford of Chappell Hill, TX; daughters, Janice Jolley of Chappell Hill, TX, and Jeanene Lunsford of Houston, TX;  Jennifer Mayer and husband Michael of Chappell Hill, TX; son, James Lunsford and wife Jennifer of Chappell Hill, TX;  brother, Don Lunsford and wife Joy of Magnolia, TX; sisters, Shirley Gilruth and husband Tom of Houston, TX, and Charlotte Freeman and husband Tim of Kailua, HI; grandchildren, Nolan Lunsford, Tucker Lunsford, and Wyatt Lunsford; sister-in-law, Dee Abrams of Waller, TX, Jackie and Chris Lowery and children, Jaina, Ashlyn, and Addie of Tomball, TX; and Jen and Matt Quinton and children, Liberty, Chloe and Evie of Spring, TX.

Glyn is preceded in death by his parents, Nolen and Edna Mae Lunsford and son-in-law Mike Jolley.

Serving as pallbearers will be Eric Lunsford, Chris Strack, Chris Lowery, Matt Quinton, Bradley Wolfe, Kirk Jordan, Wesley Faske, Nolan Lunsford, Tucker Lunsford, Wyatt Lunsford, Chase Moore, and Hayden Strack.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, TX 77833.
