Jack Glen Rhine, 92, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Christ Lutheran Church, with Vicar Sharon Schwartz officiating.

Jack Rhine was born November 10, 1933, in Decatur, Texas to loving parents Walter and Maud Rhine. He was the first in his family to graduate from high school and pursue higher education, fulfilling a promise he made to his father early in life. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1950 and attended North Texas State College where he earned a degree in accounting. He pursued a master’s degree from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, but he did not finish due to being called to active duty, where he served in the Korean War. While he did not share much about his time in Korea, he was proud of his service to his country. Throughout his accounting career, Jack put his education to use in a variety of roles. He began as a traveling auditor for Sears and Roebuck, later served as Chief Financial Officer of Tubular Products of Texas in Houston and retired as President of Magnetic Instruments Corporation in Brenham.

On June 9, 1978, Jack married the love of his life and soul mate, Diane McPherson. Together, they embraced life and shared a love of travel. Their travels took them across the country from Maine to Colorado, Wyoming to the Carolinas, and one of their favorite destinations – Alaska, where they ventured more than once.

Jack was born a country boy and grew up learning to live off the land. He shared stories of dairy farming, planting and harvesting crops, studying and completing schoolwork by a kerosene lantern, and selling extra vegetables for personal spending money. Although most of his life was spent in the big cities of Dallas/Ft. Worth, Kansas City, Sugar Land, and Houston, he was the happiest when he and Diane bought property in Industry, Texas and became permanent residents in 1984. His hard work ethic was an asset when they decided to embark into the cattle business. Together they raised and sold registered Polled Herefords for several years, a hobby they both enjoyed. Jack was truly a jack-of-all-trades.” He taught himself to play the banjo, was a skilled leather man and crafted many beautiful hand tooled belts and goods for family, crafted intricate pieces of furniture, and stained-glass pieces. In addition, he could fix anything that was broken on the place and return it back to new. However, his favorite hobby was by far hunting, and he was thrilled when Diane wanted to learn to hunt and join him on those adventures. In 2009, both were thrilled to take on a new adventure and title – grandparents. Papa Jack adored his “Buddy” (Parker) and was always willing to find an adventure for them to explore. As Parker grew up, he treasured the opportunities he had to share his love of the outdoors, caring for animals, and adventure with Parker and took immense pride in passing along the values that had guided his own life.

He had an extremely dry sense of humor and a quick wit that many initially missed. He was stoic but had a way of ensuring you knew how much you meant to him, how proud he was of your accomplishments, and how much you were loved.

Survivors include his stepdaughter, Kimberly Kenjura and husband Gregory, and grandson Parker, along with his beloved yellow Lab, Gus, all of Brenham, Texas; daughter Lynette Honea and husband Rory; their son, Michael, and wife Catie, and their children, Whyatt, Waverly, and Maverick; daughter Karen Sherrill and son Christopher; son John Rhine and wife Amy, and their children, Benjamin and Matthew; and daughter Stacy Watts and husband Matthew; their daughter, Shelby Watts, and husband Cody, and their children, Paul and Anna; and their daughter, Addie Watts, and husband Marshall, and their daughter, Maybelline. He is also survived by many treasured cousins and dear family friends who held a special place in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Diane, his parents, siblings, and son Paul.
