Irene Bockhorn

Irene Kokemoor Bockhorn, 94, passed away November 23, 2019, in her home in Brenham, Texas, surrounded by her loving family.

Irene was born November 15, 1925, to Louis and Emma Reue Kokemoor at home near the Prairie Hill Community of Brenham, Texas. She was baptized on December 7, 1925 at St. John Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill, Texas. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in May 1940. Irene and Oscar Bockhorn were united in marriage June 3, 1950 in St. John Lutheran Church, Prairie Hill, Texas. Irene worked in Brenham at Bohne Hospital and the Brenham Clinic for many years as a Radiologic Technologist. She is a past member of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists.

As a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham, she gave generously of her time serving as a Sunday School teacher and altar guild. Irene was very active and a long time member of St. Paul’s Women of the ELCA. She also served as “Den Mother” for the Boy Scouts, and as an assistant leader for the Girl Scout group.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Oscar Bockhorn; her parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, W.J. and Monita Bockhorn; brother, Bennie Kokemoor; brothers and sisters-in-law: Herbert and Emma Kokemoor, Elwood and Rosa Kokemoor, Lonnie and Lenora Kokemoor and Arthur and Rosalee Kokemoor; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Edna and Raymond Krause; niece, Susan Kokemoor Schumann; and nephew, Larry Kokemoor.

Survivors include: her sons and daughters-in-law: Dr. Kenneth Bockhorn, Don and Karen Bockhorn, and David and Amye Bockhorn; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Rick Berry; grandchildren and spouse: Leigh and Jonny McIntyre, Brook and Curtis Marvin, Megan and Don Henderson, Nick Bockhorn, Brent and Caroline Bockhorn, Will Bockhorn, Dr. Rachel and Jared Cook, Travis and Sandy Berry, Dr. Lauren Bockhorn, Kate Bockhorn, and Miles Bockhorn; great-grandchildren: Layla McIntyre, Jenna McIntyre, Aubrey Irene Henderson, Jack Berry, Brenleigh, Henry, and William Marvin, and Frances Bockhorn; and nephew, Dr. Richard Kokemoor. The family would also like to include her special caregiver, Barbara Bockhorn.

Serving as pallbearers are Nick Bockhorn, Brent Bockhorn, Will Bockhorn, Travis Berry, Jonny McIntyre, Curtis Marvin, Don Henderson, and Jared Cook.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham with Pastor Phil Geleske and Pastor Pat Dietrich officiating. Burial will be at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Celebration of life to follow immediately after graveside services at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham, St. Paul’s Christian Day School in Brenham, or the charity of your choice.
