Imogene Laws

Imogene Laws, 98, went home to be with the Lord on June 17, 2025. ( preferred name was Jean)

Jean was born at home in Memphis, Texas on December 11th,1926 to Sloan and Annie Mae (Womack) Baker She was baptized in Memphis at the First Presbyterian Church on May 12th, 1927. Jean married Edwin Howard Laws on June 4, 1945 and they shared 53 years and 5 months together. Ed and Jean were very active in the Methodist Church and joined wherever they set down roots. Jean taught second grade Sunday School with Ed for seven years and was a member of many ministries within the Methodist church throughout their marriage. Jean also loved crafts, while painting Bluebonnets was her specialty. She and Ed worked the Round Top Craft Festival two times a year for 18 years, he with his woodworking and she with her painting.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Ed, parents, Annie & Sloan, brother, Sloan Hugh Baker, sister, Dorothy Nell Snellings and nephew, William J. Baker. She is survived by her children; Douglas Laws (Alecia), Deborah Kolber (Eric), brother Robert Baker (Sarah), grandchildren; Neal Kolber, Shaune Kolber, Mary Laws and John Laws, great-grandchildren; Elliott, Mia, Isaac, Kiera and Naomi Kolber along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

A visitation and reception for Jean will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm at Memorial Oaks Chapel, located at 1306 W. Main Street, Brenham, Texas. Celebration of Life service will begin at 2:00 pm in the Memorial Oaks Chapel with the burial to follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery.
