Ian graduated from Brenham High School and then earned his bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University. Ian was a student of history and loved to talk about it. He would Research history everything from ancient world history to current history and politics. His favorite trip he ever took was when he decided to go to Israel by himself.

He was truly happy in Israel. He would send pictures and text about all the fun he was having. Ian was proud to be Jewish. He talked about his faith constantly and how important it was to him.

Ian was crucial in discovering a lost cemetery in Washington County not far from his home that had settlers from early Texans, including veterans of the Texas revolution, the last messenger of the Alamo and San Jacinto veterans as well as some of Stephen F. Austin's old 300 were buried in that cemetery. Within that same cemetery, enslaved people's graves were found and marked as well, all thanks to Ian. Ian was crucial in getting the Cemetery dedicated as a Texas Historical cemetery, and he was instrumental in obtaining a proclamation from the Governor of Texas and the Mayor of San Antonio recognizing the importance of this Cemetery. Ian would work early in the morning and spend countless hours trimming brush, cutting trees down, burning brush and researching those whose headstones that have been long forgotten and covered up.

Ian loved to serve others, he would brag about his work for Habitat for Humanity and his job there and how he felt like he was making a difference. Ian was the type of person that if you ever needed anything he would come running.

He never shirked a task; he was a kind gentle soul who did not like confrontation and would always work the best he could to resolve the situation. Ian enjoyed working with people and enjoyed his work at Woodson Lumber at which he was employed until he passed away.

Ian had an interesting taste in music, classic rock but more importantly 80's and 90's rap music. He would laugh and play it loud and listen and sing along in whoever's car he was in.

As Freemason Ian was a member of many Masonic organizations, the Houston Valley Scottish Rite, York Rite, Knights of St. Andrew, Shrine, Grotto, Knight Masons, Allied Masonic Degrees, President of the Bluebonnet Scottish Rite Club and The Steve Cooke Scottish Rite Club. Ian held many offices of leadership within all these organizations in one form or another.

Ian received the high honor within the Scottish Rite of Knight Commander of the Court of Honor which few Masons ever obtain in their lives through his hard work dedication and love for the Scottish Rite.

He was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Brenham, Texas.

Ian was a dedicated friend and son. He took care of his parents under the most difficult and trying conditions, a truly thankless job. His level of self-sacrifice for his parents and putting himself last at all times was something to be admired and proud of and respected.

He was a gentleman, a great listener, proud Jewish man and Texan. He loved his friends and his country.

Ian is survived by his parents and many other family members and friends that will miss him dearly.
